View Full Version : Flash - anybody know ?
I want to buy a Flash programme (creating Flash movies like intros to home pages etc.). I just wanted to know if anybody has any suggestions as to what is best. I will see as to the price range myself as I am not sure how much I want to spend on it yet.
Thanks in advance.

best thing to do is download the free trials available, and see which ones you like.

i've never used flash, but i do need to learn it - someday.

macromedia flash is the photoshop of flash programs. expensive, but full-featured. i've used the trial version before and it's very nice. the learning curve is a bit steep, like photoshop, but once you get the basics down, it's pretty cool. that's what i used for my 'marilyn' flash. i believe it also comes in a 'studio' version, which has even more tools and apps, but, like photoshop's packaged studio version, you're gonna pay more.
there are other, cheaper programs out there. a google search shld find you a number of them. and you can try places like zdnet or download.com or tucows and search these download sites and find others as well, but macromedia is the clear leader in this field.
and just to make this point even clearer, animation studios have found that macromedia flash can replace other commericial animation programs for making full length cartoons and the like. the main reason for this is, that macromedia flash works with objects and animates the entire object as one thing and can, therefore, take an arm and move it around without having to redraw it in each frame. this saves tons of time in animation. i dont know all the details of this, as i only saw a small segment reviewing this on 'the screensavers', but it looked pretty cool.

Thanks for the advice. I have just had a look at some programme and was shocked to bits to see that macromedia's flash costs an absolute fortune. I have no doubt it's worth it but I am not sure if I want to invest so much money in it just to have it lie in my shelf most of the time afterwards. I might just download a trial version and see how it goes and if the whole thing is worth the bother.
Thanks for the links. Will check them out and see what I can come up with.

Quid, are your setting put so that you can accept PMs?
I sent you one, but alas, it doesn't look like you received it.

Soly, I did receive your PM and sent you one back. Apparently, it did not make it ! I pretty much said the same as I did in my previous post here, so in case you didn't receive it, you didn't miss much.
Thanks a bunch again.
