Received a reply from EA/europe 14.34pm by email. It reads....
Hi John. Unfortunately I do not know why this has happened again. I can only assume that the online guys are changing/altering the server which you are registered on.
However they have been notified once again and will sort out the problem as soon as possible. This is a known issue when speaking to them, as they are aware of this.
Sorry for any inconvenience....end of message

I just tried the MI port with STW. works great. You can play STW on the MI port.
You will only see STW games, and the MI player will not see your games (STW).
You are still able to chat with MI players.

Jochi Khan,

Try this. Edit the internet.cfg file in your main Shogun folder. On the first line remove daphne.eagames.co.uk and put 212.36.147.193 which is the actual ip address of the EA server and save it. You may want to save the original to a new name to preserve a copy before making any changes. Use "save as" to you can alter the filename. The "failed to connect" error you are getting is consistent with the game being unable to find the EA server. It's possible that the domain nameserver your ISP provides is not resolving the domain name. Using the numeric ip address gets around any domain nameserver problems. You could also use a trace program to see if your computer sees the EA server.

Can you think back to anything about your computer that changed between the last time you were able to log in and the first time you couldn't log in?

Have only just read your posting. Orda and family have been visiting today.

I will try what you have suggested. Hope my computer skills are up to it.

Regarding the computer. After three long sessions,( Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening ) until late, I shut down. Monday evening, started up and checked my email and then later tried to log on to EA/Play. This is when it failed to connect for the first time. The computer hadn't been used in between times.

I am the only one that uses the computer so there was no reason that I can think of for this to happen.I have tried a number of different nicknames, even re registering but still no luck.......Jochi Khan

Please excuse my limited comp skills.
I am trying to edit the internet.cfg file as you suggested.
Internet.cfg-double click-window appears -Open with.
1. Description of files of this type: Cursor flashing.
2. Which program do I chose to open Internet.cfg in this window?
Description of files of this type?
Would you explain these for me please.
I don't want to just start clicking and mess things up completely
I am a bit wary of doing something I don't know of for certain. Your assistance is greatly appreciated .........Jochi Khan

I'll try to answer this for Puzz3D.

First, make a copy of your configuration file as backup.

Now use "Notepad" to open the internet.cfg
(you may have to change the "files of type" option of Notepad to "All files" to see that internet.cfg)

Make changes as what Puzz3D suggested.

Save it. Use the "Save" function, instead of "Save as".

End of the story.

Thanks Gothmog

Have done as Puzz3D said. Unfortunately this has still not cured my problem. Still cannot log on to EA/Play with either of the two ISP's that I have. Tried them both tonight 9.15pm UK time. Thanks for your help.
I will now try a trace program to see if that will come up with something...........Jochi Khan
