Perhaps this is old news, but I havn't seen a post on it, so......
In Campaign games, put taxes at lowest to begin, then in Autumn, rachet up to Punitive.
The ignorant peasants trust you and reward you with very high loyalty! Following Autumn, drop taxes to lowest again. This also helps when taking provinces. The new subjects grant you high loyalty for the low tax promise.(I know, it's duplicitous! hehe)

This is not a new tactic, it's been around for ages. Some players use it quite a lot, particularly when converting to Christianity. The better players frown on this kind of thing http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Ach! I'm branded as inferior! LoL....Well, perhaps you're correct. I can't win with Oda at expert (or Shimazu, or Mori, etc) but I've never used the port gambit, save games solely for the purpose of correcting things I've forgotten (like producing units, moving, etc) and take bad harvests as obstacles to be overcome (like 4 out of 5, which destroyed my last game).
But, one might consider lying to the peasants a legitimate tactic, just like launching an attack that is recalled because the AI DIDN'T leave a small garrison when he attacked elsewhere.
Do GOOD players send a group of Shinobi into an enemy province because they know ONLY one will be caught?
Doubtless you meant no insult, but there seems there was a judgement made and I trust you'll forgive me for putting my case....and contributing any further insights I might have.

It's OK Worm, he's just stating the "iron man rules" code of conduct. I'm sure no judging was going on http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

BTW, do you like the new books? I hear House Atreides was kinda lame compared to his dad's work.

Thx, Black Ship...3 things...
I've not read any of the new books, in fact, didn't know of them! I doubt they could recapture the flavor of the first book, even Dad was never so good with his following efforts.
2nd, What ARE the "Iron Man Rules'? Is there a site where they are listed?
3rd, You're idea on making a a map site important to victory conditions is very good.
Perhaps its loss would alter the ultimate result, if you lost the battle but held the site.

Hey moderators:

Was the "Iron Man rules" thread kept?

Let's see how many I remember:
1) No save-game, replay losses.
2) No port-to-port bypassing.
3) No fiddling with the Taxes.
4) No using Geishas to go Terminator on the AI.
5) No cheat codes.

I'm sure there were more, but that's a good start http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

The new books are "House Atreides" (now in paper-back) and "House Harkonnen". My favourite by pops was definitely "Chapter House". I like the whole sexual addiction angle http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Catiline,

Shai and I were discussing the Dune series by Frank Herbert, and now his son http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

We were also talking about Iron man rules, just to keep this thread on topic. You remember any more rules? http://cgi.tripod.com/smilecwm/cgi-bin/s/net4/ketten.gif

Presumably no autoresolving or other tricks to get the legendary swordsman event, but it's not too major a threat to gameplay unless you're Shimazu, beyond that i think you've got the main ones covered
