Hi all I know it's just the demo, but the full battles in the whole game are going to take more than 2-3 minutes aren't they?

I just got the demo Monday, and at Trebia the romans routed and ran away in about 90 sec and another 30 sec. to hunt down.

It kind of worries me that the pace of combat is too fast. These battles were all day affairs. Even On Hard it seem to fast, when i play MTW the battles can last a long time...

Yup - this the biggest worry expressed about the game based on the demo. I think CA have heard this, but I haven't heard them comment on it.

And CA are even describing the main(only) tactic of the gauls and germans as one frontal charge. If the enemy survives that they rout quickly.

So the actual time of such battles (without the marching and routing) will be really short.~ ~

Trebia is faster because you have valour heavy units - but even playing with vanilla units in a mod the enemy routs really quickly, sometimes too quick to even flank them...e

I think the battle speed is a welcome change. Some battles in M:TW took over an hour to finish (I remember someone mentioned a Mongol Horde battle that lasted 5 hours.) In the beginning of any campaign I almost always personally do the battles, but once I get past 75-100 years I start auto calcing a lot. When I have something like 4000 vs 5000 every few turns it gets a bit annoying and drawn out.

have you found the speed slider yet?

Even with the slider it still takes a while and sometimes I can't use the slider because I have to be able to make split second decisions (thank you pause button.)

I find using double speed on slider combined with pausing means decent tactical results as well as little time wasted.

Also when you use the fast forward the normal speed hot key becomes very unresponsive; I don't remember this being a problem in MTW with CTRL+T.

Hi All I'm new,

But, concerning the Fast Battles, what I found in the demo wasn't so much faster activity as it was faster killing and routing. But, it is just a demo and perhaps it was scripted up quite a bit so that the player would rarely lose. But, I did lose, funny thing was I lost the 2nd battle and not the first or 3rd one. (I started out on "hard" and continued to play on that difficulty level).

One thing other I would say is the camara angle needs more adjustment for more of a top down view, the highest zoom out doesn't seem to show as much as I would like to see, seems MTW had just a tad bit more overhead angle in it.

It is definitely faster than MTW in most all respects, but, it looks like something I can get used to. It's not as extreme as some posts would have had me believe before I played the demo.
