View Full Version : How do I change a General's unit? (MTW)
Hello all,
I am not sure if this is the proper place to post this question, but I am curious about how to change a General's unit? I have a really good general, but he's in a peasant unit, which I want to disband. I'd like to upgrade him to a calvary unit, or something.
I was not able to find anything in the manual about it, so I'm wondering if someone here can enlighten me, if this is at all possible.
Thanks!

be good if it could in Rome, though. I hate having super-um-generals. But you could say it's a good thing, with all your good units your don't have to worry about 'oh no, my general's gonna die!!! NOOOOO!!!!!!'
I would typically intentionally fill up the general's unit with high valor UMs and then retrain with morale and armor and weapons so as to make the general last a little more battleworthy.
withdrawing from the battle before combat starts will also keep him safe but maintain the bonuses except for within 75m of general.

my very first campaign taught me this lesson
I had my best General (7 Stars) as a single Urban Militia unit - one man - I hadn't figured out how to retrain units at that time.... anyway the whole unit (except him) got slaughtered just because I forgot that Urban Militia suck when taking on a charge from some heavy Cav....
what also sucks is that if they are such small size unit, they might be killed while besieging a castle in VI. This I found out the hard way when I lost a killer Byz heir.
he was very high valor and could take any enemy unit by his lonesome but died sieging! I hate besieger attrit in this manner!
