Fakeserver?????

Now I know my PC knowledge is limited but I know also that I am not a complete fool.

To be honest it's getting to the point where I feel like calling it a day. I see all these posts saying how good it is. It's easy just do this. Simple just click that. Well I did and it don't work.

In a last ditch attempt to get online I will go through what I did, will someone please put me out of my misery and tell me what I did wrong?
Downloaded serverswapper.
Installed in shogun total war directory.
Fakeserver also installed here
Selected option B in DOS box.
chose multiplayer options in game.
clicked on continue.............
Failed to connect!!!!!!!
Have I forgotten something?

I noticed also that internet.cfg has disappeared, I can only assume that serverswapper has replaced it?

You should have a new internet.cfg dated 07/31/02 in your main game folder after you choose option B in the dos box.

First of all, you dont need Fakeserv to play on a "custom" server. You also don't need the server swapper.

All you need to do is change the first line of your internet.cfg file from "daphne.eagames.co.uk" to the IP address of the person who is hosting the custom server. And change the chatserver port to the same port as the host (default is 8793, original internet.cfg is 8794).

So basically, you change the top two lines in your internet.cfg file.

When you are done with it, it should look like this:

ChatserverIPAddress = 123.123.23.123
ChatserverPort = 8793
NewsserverIPAddress = daphne.eagames.co.uk
NewsserverPort = 8797
ShogunTotalWarWebsite = www.totalwar.com (http://www.totalwar.com)

123.123.23.123 represents the ip address of the person hosint. 123.123.23.123 isnt a real ip adress, its just for an example.

I will be hosting as a server in about 2 hours, and will post my ip address and port setting (8793) on my Bachus' Server thread.

If you STILL have trouble, I can email you the properly modified internet.cfg file, or even better, I can post the proper mods and you can cut and past into your .cfg file.

It really is easy, you just have to hold your ears right.

Tosa Server is not fake at all, it is working just fine. I am playing while at work, so it limits my game time (still have to keep my rice pot), but I saw 6-8 good friends playing 3x3-4x4 multies.

This server is real!

To run the server, you need to be on the non-firewall side, is it? Can we play and run server at the same time?

Orda, the only thing I can think is:
1) Tosas server wasnt up when you tried or

2) You ran STWServer.bat in a directory other than your MI/WE root directory (for me it is C:\Program Files\Total War\Shogun - Total War.

3) Your internet connection wasnt working or

4) You were behind a fire-wall or something.


It should work without any real trouble....
try again, its worth it.

It does not work for me whether I run the server swapper or alter internet.cfg
( Puzz 3D I found the file, it's name had been changed to just 'internet' )

I think I may as well uninstall shogun

orda u need to copy the file dated 07/31/02 into your total war game folder , i had the same prob as u and jochi until i copied this file into the game folder . cya online soon m8.

put ur ip in the internet.cfg
did u change the chatserverport to 8794
& once u do it u need to click on the fakeserver icon, then click start
next run mi and log on

Press spacebar then x to get you back to desktop then run STW as normal. I had problems originaly but they were sorted for me. Playing online OK now. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif.....Jochi Khan
