View Full Version : Q & A for RTW
I would like to know what the different levels of difficulty does?? does it only increase your opponents strength or does it improve there tactics?
another question is: i´ve read thet u can have 10.000 men on screen at once, but using romemod for the demo u can already have over 9.000 men using only 4 factions. Since u can have up to 8 factions in one battle that must mean that u can have closer to 20.000 men at on battle or maybe even more(in my battle with 9.000 men I only used groups of 120 men but i´ve read thet u could have 300 men in one group?!). please correct me if i´m totally of cource... ~D
cheers
From what I've read there can be 8 armies on the battle field at one time. Each army can have 20 units. Unit maximum is 300 combatants. That would put an upper limit of 8*20*300 or 48,000 combantants on the battle field at one time.
However commanders' units are not 300 strong so you're probably looking at what 46,000?
Couple of points that I'm not sure about is whether the 20 unit limit is strictly on the battlefield (upped from MTW's 16) or is it a hard and fast 20 unit limit? Also your faction's family members can command armies (under AI control) during the battle, I'm assuming these fall into the 8 limit.

Yep your right 300 will be the limit for some units(prolly barbarian inf).So in a 4v4 custom/multi battle you could have 8*19 units @300 men =45600 men.Plus 8 gen units @31 (maybe on huge unit size) =46048 men.Have to hire some hardware off nasa to play it though. ~:)
Have a look at this shot and see if you can count themhttp://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/rometotalwar/screens.html?page=78 (big battle)
so it seems... that would be truly amazing... but none has answered my first question ^^... please do! ~;)

In reply to your first question, I don't know. :laugh4:
But I will speculate a little bit. I doubt that the tactics of your opponent really get better. I also doubt that the tactics of AI generals will get better, even when they have more stars. It's enough of a monster trying to create one good battle AI (or maybe variations for each faction) without imagining how to create different AIs for different quality generals. I guess it might be possible, but seems incredibly difficult.
What seems more likely to me would be that your enemy general would be more experienced (resulting in higher morale), and/or your opponent's units would be more experienced, higher morale, better weapons, better armor, or more soldiers per unit.
This is in a battle scenario. I've heard that there will also be a separate difficulty setting for the campaign, and have absolutely no idea how that might be achieved.

Okay, now that I'm thinking about it a little more, maybe they can be better at tactics. My reasoning now: All of what I listed as more likely would only work in a demo or single battle arrangement, not in a campaign setting. But if you can set a campaign to "easy" but with all battles being "hard", I have no idea how the battle could be made hard other than by having a better AI. Hmm. ~ Sorry, I don't seem to have helped at all.
hehe... not the best answer but then again its not an easy question to answer... it seems that it would be very difficult to create many variations of tactics depending on faction, how good the general is and so forth... but if it is THAT my friends would be truly amazing. ~D I mean the AI in the demo(using the romemod) is very good, some bugs exist but they are very cunning at some points... cant wait until this game iis released.... until then: speculate, speculate, speculate ~;)
cheers
