View Full Version : How do you choose the type of woman you want ?
Greetings All.
This thread is inspired by another thread on homosexuality and genetics.
It should have been titled:
Genetic/Biological and Character trait influence on mate selection.
...or something along those lines.
I've been pretty active lately, and have had the great pleasure and wonderful good fortune of meeting and getting to know, many new women. It's been a great year in every sense (so far) but specially with regards to female companionship. Every relationship has been fruitful, delightful and full of lifelong good memories.
I've been intrigued with the why ? of which woman I approach. It's a given what type of woman I generally approach. She has the same general characteristics (physical/intellectual/emotional), I'm driven to these women becuase I know they are what I want. She could be any nationality, race, but there are certain key elements of her person which remain the same or generally speaking: very closely related. This does not mean it's the same person with a different body, or the same body with a different person, to the contrary.
My questions:
-Why do we have preferences (physical, intellectual, emotional) towards certain women and not others ?
-Does anyone have any insight towards the biological/genetic discussions on this subject ?
I'd be most grateful for any links, as well as for any printed references, which are provided in support of your thoughts (or otherwise).
-Is our choice of women influenced by our (or their) genetic makeup and how ?
Please note: This is a discussion about hetrosexual mate selection primarily geared towards the discussion of male selection preference, but also of female selection preference. Please visit the backroom for any discussion about homosexual beahviour as there are a number of threads on the subject there. Do not post here about homosexuality and/or religion etc, please. This is not a discussion on that subject.
Thanks in anticipation, for your replies, and help.

The studies I've seen, or heard about bear out points related to what you are saying:
Females (across many, if not all species) appear to 'mate select' based on their adaptive/reactive assessment of their environment: in a 'poor' environment, selecting a strong provider; in a 'rich' environment, an understanding guy, etc.
Whereas, male mate selection, even across many selectees, tends to remain constant; we pick the same set of attributes regardless of environment. Each male attaches value to slightly different criteria, compared to other males - but looks for the same values in each potential mate-selectee.

The psychological factors that underlie mate preference are regarded as being domain specific, yet it remains unclear how to characterize the architectonics of this organization. The existence of independent mate choice predictors suggests that the domain of mate preference is subdomain specific as well. Modeling using logistic regression methodology is employed to determine whether any interaction effects exist between previously identified predictors of mate attraction which might lead to the construction of higher order subdomains. Results demonstrate that no significant interaction effects exist for male raters while two interaction effects could be detected for female raters: intelligence*responsibility and kindness*responsibility. Thus, for males, the preference standards that underlie human mate attraction appear to operate largely independently of one another, while for females, the hypothesis that higher order domains within the domain of mate selection exist that consist of several interacting predictors is supported.
This seems to be a statistical study, and is more geared towards how to diplay the data, from what I understood. However there are two key points:
while two interaction effects could be detected for female raters: intelligence*responsibility and kindness*responsibility.
These effects are relevant, however they are not discussing the genetic/biological influence. Rather they stating character trait preference and their combined demonstration in statistical representation. They are useful and informative.
Thus, for males, the preference standards that underlie human mate attraction appear to operate largely independently of one another, while for females, the hypothesis that higher order domains within the domain of mate selection exist that consist of several interacting predictors is supported.
Pretty clear, but what are the higher order domains within the domain of mate selection for males ?
Thanks again for the link, Kukri.
Do you have the full paper ? or a link to the full paper ?
I'm reading the other one right now..might have to get back to you on that one, tomorrow.

well personally im very shallow i base it on looks (though they have to have a good personality for me to stay with them for some time) in terms of looks well the sterotypical western view of beauty (jennifer aniston, holly valance and sarah michelle gellar ect.)

looks are important, but to be honest - id have sex with damn near anything
and im not desperate
i just pick and choose anything with "that thing down there"
i prefer that they are thinner than i if im considering dating them
but any ethnicity is fine by me
i might start dating a girl who isnt great looking facially, but after a while, it gets to me and i end up feeling like i can do better and losie respect for them everytime they see fit to argue with me/deny sex/pretty much do anything i dont like
To be honest, almost all have chosen me.
The ones I went after - good bodies, very intelligent, motivated, but still just a bit needy.

I'm lucky in the fact that i have a loving fiance and shouldn't need to find any1 again.
When i was single I didn't really mind. As long as they had a good personallity i was happy with whoever i went out with.

See, I have no idea. I've never gone out with a girl... I'm really pathetic that way. :wall: ~:mecry:
But I prefer white women, probably because my school is a primarily white school. And I tend to prefer darker hair, and the girls that I'm friends with are mainly clever, not necasirlly smart, but the dumb chatter box can get on my nerves... not that I'd ever say anything to her... I'm far to much of a coward. But I can't really help to much with this thread, since I've never dated a girl. Oh well. There's always the Junior Prom... :embarassed:

every girl ive gone for but 2 i have gotten
and they have all - But 2(not the 2 i didnt get, to be honest ~ )- been totally bangin'
i guess i was really good looking when i was younger - im starting to lose my hair now - and, in effect, my confidence
the last 2 ive dated have gone from cute with a nice body to not cute with a great body - my current one - while not pretty - is asian and has a sweet body so she keeps me interested
PS - i do profess love to her so dont call me shallow - even though i often find myself wanting to leave her to spread seed in prettier gardens

Sorry m8, haven't found such a comprehensive source yet. These guys, being academics, still live by the "publish or perish" rule, I guess. So they keep the full text off the 'net in hopes of publishing articles in professional journals, etc. (or a book, if they're lucky).
For this old man, if I had to pick the one thing that both attracts me and keeps me coming back, it's: enthusiasm.

Oh, sorry, after the screw personality part I forgot the J/K. Lol, I'm an idiot.
Thanks Kukri. I have not read the other paper yet but I hope to do so soon, latest Monday, will have some free time then.
Ang guys... yeah ? the women choose you as well. That's always the same. If the woman does not choose then she's brain dead, she has to choose to go on with it i.e you choose her based on some previous conceptions/expectations, but she does the same.
Looks count for first impressions obviously after that blatantly personality, i don't care if you're better looking than lindsay Lohan if you're as dumb as a post if you get my point.

Because I can't be bothered to make the effort, as well as being good looking, funny, etc. etc. they also have to be the ones to come to me.
So far, so good.
I always looked for good looking blondes that are nearsighted and suffer some degree of deafness. My ideal woman also has lost her sense of smell in a fireworks accident.

Hehe.
I just follow gut instinct. It is for these reasons I can never walk the streets of some places in England again... *meh*
But yeah. Girls seem to be easier to get now I'm older, blonder and taller. I'm probably the only person in the world to go from dark hair to blonde hair as I get older.

Sinan (hello stranger :D) Based off memory and an old theory (pre-Hollywood/glamour model/shallow-posters-here ;)) and cant be bothered to do the back-up research:
Animal attraction: Men will tend to go for women who they believe will be able to provide them with heirs, continue their line, so to speak. Hence why women with well defined hips and breasts (for feeding their young) are attractive. Women will again look for a partner who will care for their young - looks not as important (although broad shoulders/appearance of physical strength would be a bonus - as in 'hunter/food provider), and also faithfulness (a hunter who leaves means the infants will fail to thrive).
Lips, hips and fingertips. Nuff said.

How do you choose the type of woman you want?
You as a male don't choose. She lets you think you do.
