The demo and the following mayhem has been interesting to watch and participate in. A thread of discourse that I find to be tasteless, however, is the adoption of an us-and-them attitude to the demo --- that is, "either people like the demo or people hate it, and I can therefore draw conclusions about their testosterone level, skill level, character, ancestry, and ice cream flavour preferences."
The .org is not such a black-and-white place. There are many (the majority here, I would say) who disliked aspects of the demo, but who also recognised that the final product should have a lot of improvements.
As Gil said in a recent post, when threads degenerate into "I'm not buying this game if...", the dev's move on quickly to something more worth reading.
Extremes of opinion are fine if you want to rile, irritate, and enrage others, or are looking to aggrandise yourself with those who hold the same view, but they end any possibility for discussion.
Launching attacks at the individuals behind the opinions, however, is simply sad.

True. I have had my fair share to say regarding the demo but I try to make my comments more constructive an dsaying that I dislike or like something for a certain (I think) logical reason and try to give some kind of idea of how to correct the percieved problem. I realize that this isn't MTW or STW - it doesn't really use anything from those games besides the theme that they started of having two game systems intigrated together into one package. There are similarities but Rome is deffinately not just a spin-off of MTW like MTW was of STW. It is really a new generation in the Total War Series. Concessions like these label me as less of a purist than many on these boards - but isn't to say I am willing to sacrifice good gameplay just because it's a new game and I'm supposed to get used to it as such. It might sound like whining but in my opinion when a game shares the suffix of a line of games prior to it I would expect it to play reasonably the same.
Then again I haven't played the full release so who am I to say such things?
Merely Hopeful.

One thing i don't understand is why do threads saying the same thing like "Stop saying that you won't buy the game" e.t.c. emerge all the time. This point has been made many times till now.
If a person is very dissapointed about it, it is his/her right not to buy it and state why in the forums.
I'm not a fan of extremities regarding discussions on games but as there are people who consider the game to be perfect and constantly sing praises to CA, the same way there are people who object to many things and their frustration and disapointment leads them to comments who are a bit hard.
Both are acceptable to me, however. A fair :duel:
If CA or their constant praisers can't stand criticism then they just should not read the posts by objectors, although they should remember that criticism is a necessary feedback.
On the other hand, i would prefer people who criticise the developers to be generally polite.
That's all i have to say on the subject.
Ooh and my favourite ice-cream is strawberry with nuts and fruit-pieces.
~:joker: Funny analogy! Here's a thought:
People will eat their favorite ice-cream. The question is availability of choice.
Person A goes to Store X asked for Vanilla. "No, we only have cherry"
Person B goes to Store Y asked for Cherry. "No, we only have Vanilla"
Person C goes to Store Z asked for Both. "Yes, we have both!!"
Wardogs, Flaming Pigs, Screaming Women, You have a choice to play or not play them.
Unit speed/Killing speed. Do players have a choice???
Disagreement is fine so long as there is a choice. If not you will see a marked division.
Person A will always go to Store Y.
Person B will always go to Store X.
