can the "Barbarians" take up the armor of their fallen enemy?

I can remember that this looting was brought up in some old unitdescriptions, and it seems to me that also once in the .com by a dev, but I ain't sure...

So does anybody remembers it too or it is just a illusion of mine ~:mecry:

Well......the Romans did not loot armour for use as they had standardized equipment. They may have looted it for sale and all proceeds would be equally distributed between the army minus the Generals tithe. If playing as a barbarian faction this may make sense to loot the superior weaponry and armour of the Roman factions but how the hell could CA implement such a move.
I really believe if this is a feature in the game it will have a purely monetary effect.
Could be wrong though..............wouldn't be the first time either. ~;)

I actually noticed that on a post you made a couple of days ago and was about to say something similar..............then i looked at you're date of membership and decided if i kept my head down you wouldn't notice.
Only reason i have it my friend is that i'm a Spartan fanatic.Best troops in ancient times(if a little inflexible) and i cannot wait to use them in the game.
Think it was Simonides who said it however. ~ ~:joker:

In Close Combat III your soldiers could loot the dead for weapons. I remember one time, I was German on last map, Reichstagg, and I had this sniper, when he ran out of ammo, he grabbed a flame thrower from a corps, and when that was out, he grabbed a mg 42, and used that too!

sorry, ot

It would only make sense if your army collected equipment from the field and was then allowed to issue some of it to new units. Problems arise because you need to collect enough to fully armour/arm a unit, and it needs to be consistent with the units training. It's not going to fit well with the current game if half of your spear unit becomes sword armed...

Civil War Generals II allowed this after a battle. You received a dollar value for casualties inflicted and captured units. This allowed you to re-equip units with better arms. That was critical for the South (in the game as well as reality), since policing the field was fundamental to survival. As a result of early successes (real world), Southern armies sometimes had more quality Springfields than the Northern army that was supposedly equipped with them. Northern units did some of the same to a lesser degree--some of the states issued really lousy guns to some units, so the soldiers would find various ways to re-arm themselves after combat dropping their Belgian guns for something better. It had to be a nightmare to keep track of ammunition needs for Southern units though. They were not uniformly armed within a regiment in most cases.

Hm, I was only talking about the looting of armor, which wouldn't interfere with the "rock-scissor-paper" model. So no unit with half swordsman and half spearmen...

But it seems that nobody has heard of it before...

Perhaps a CA Member could help - me poor guy has to wait still a long time...
