Well heres what I do when the A.I. has some tough cavalry that I have to face. I put my spearclass units in lose formation wait until there cavarly is integrated within my unit of spearmen then close the formation up. Thus there cavalry is trapped and it usually stops that 1 cavalry unit from attacking 4 different units all at once. Now that the spearmen have come together there are gaps in the line in wich I bring my shock units through and make piecemeal of there army.

I know its a cheesy tactic but I get tired of all thos head on cavalry charges right from the start. It also seems to kill them quicker because instead of the cavalry being in 1 big group making it a 1 on 1 with my spearmen it allows more possibility that all there cavalry will be attacked by 2 spearman at a time.

I think that means that you lose your Rank bonus for spearmen. If they recieve a head on charge in hold formation then 2 spearmen (first and Second Ranks) can fight the cav at the same time anyway.

You might not be facing strong cavalry. Against good chargers, you spearman class unit will get brushed away like any other infantry.

You might not be facing strong cavalry.Hotingzilla, we all do from time to time, and we all get by with a little help from our flankers. As for your formation tactic, the proof of the pudding is in the Custom Battle panel. Copy the superior enemy Cavalry and your own Spearmen into it and do body counts for loose and close formation. I'm afraid loosing that rank bonus is a killer. :dizzy2:
