Sorry to ask such a simple question, but somehow I just cant find the answer. If I have lets say a spearmen unit and I want it to stay the same place just want to change its facing because for some odd reason it faces the wrong direction. What do I do or click? Thanks...

I believe it's hold ctrl and click in the place you want them to be facing. Might be alt, or might be ctrl-right click, or alt-right click. But there's only a few possibilities, and I'm sure it's hold either ctrl or alt and click or right click.

Hi Bretwalda ~

I vote for Alt-RM (Alt-Right Mouse) too if I remember rightly.

Alt-LM moves the unit to a position keeping the same facing.

Thanks a lot, I will try it out in one of the tutorials! ;)

I do this, but my units still disorganized!!!

EG: 1 unit of spears, 1 of cavalry, 1 of arch and 1 of infantry
the spears=200
the cavalry=80
the arch=120
the inf=120

one below other, in four ranks,

then, i make a Ctrl+A to select all, then a Alt+Right Click
The spears, turns 90 degrees, the cavalry 180º,(i want this), and the other units, between 45 and 90º

Why?

This is Incredible!!!!

Alt-RM makes a unit turn and face in a particular direction.
If you select multiple units, group and Alt-RM you get the same effect but more of them turning at once. (see * below for more)
If you want to wheel your whole army to face a particular direction but retain the overall formation (which, I think, is what you want) that is a lot trickier. I don't think there's a keypress to do it.
You can get wheeling by selecting all units, form group and then march them to a destination which is any direction other than directly in front of their existing position. They will wheel around while marching towards it. Wheeling the group around whilst trying to maintain position (like holding a hilltop) might be a bit more tricky.

*
The reason your units are turning by different amounts is probably because you are asking them to face a spot on the map which is too close, or even somewhere in the middle of your formation. Imagine all the numbers on a clock-face, at first facing upwards, then turning to face the centre - as if you Alt-RM clicked there. They will be at various angles, like you described.

The trick is to click somewhere off in the far distance.

To turn the facing of troops you must use the '' command without the quotes obvioulsy. I think this is what it says in the manual if my memory serves me correctly

As above, alt-RM plus, your entire army (or just the ones you want to move) must be grouped together. When not grouped, they swivel individualy rather than as a group.

OK, but when I do alt+RM the troops (lets say spearmen) start stiring and move and then settle. How do I do them just to turn right or left, without moving an inch. So like every one of the soldiers turn 90 degrees in place. Any ideas? Is that the "greater than" "smaller than" signs? Thanks!

Worse case you can always hold the shift key and LMB down and move the mouse over where you want them to be. (I mean, draw a little box.) Note that if you aren't careful you can accidentally change the shape/depth of the formation at the same time.

I think the other suggestions that have been cited here are good. When you alt-rmb with a bunch of units selected you need to click on the horizon to get them facing pretty-much parallel. Even still you are apt to need to fine-tune them a bit. To get the units to turn in unison you need to group them - not just select them. Generally I find that it's not worth it to drive yourself too nuts trying to get everyone lined up perfectly - spend some time before the clash, as you are marching toward them or they are marching towards you, to tweak your lines, but don't get too anal once the carnage starts.
