On one occasion i had a game which had two disks labeled the wrong way around. So i would try all the other disks to see if they work also on some games it asks for the play disc which turns out to be disk two. So i suggest you try disk 2 and 3. Hope this helps you.
p.s. if you want to blaim anyone, blaim activision they are the publisher, you could send them a email if the problems persists
disk scratched prechance, or try installing again, i dunno... BTW welcome to the org ~ get Pape or Kukri to send this over to the apoth.
Yes mods please send this to the tech support area. thanks for the welcome.. i have tried the other disks to no avail.. i have also checked to see if it was scratched. no go there either.. thanks for the help though.. any more ideas fellas??

Try another computer. You cannot exclude the CD is damaged, keep the ticket until the game is running.
Some years ago I had a similar problem with the Apache simulator, when I was making the choice of my sound card my system crushed. It was the CD that was damaged, I get another copy in exchange at the store and it worked perfectly.
ok sorry for not posting this before.. i have reinstalled 3 times now..
ok update: went back to eb and got a new game. STILL not working...
You got windows XP with SP2?

CBR

ok that sounds good. just to clarify, i was able to install the actual game.. but when i go to play the game after instalation it asks for the corect cd. I am now reinstalling the game for the 4th time, with new cds, after rebooting twice, and uninstalling service pack 2
STILL no go.. what could be the problem???? i called activision help line at (310) 255-2050 and thier automated system didnt even recognize the game name rome total war, and i dont think there is any way to talk to a real person. oh and i dont think the problem is wiht my cd drive, the comp is brand new and i put homeworld 2 on to test out my 3d card and int installed and played fine!

I've so far not attempted to go to XP SP2. Wondering about how many progs it will knobble.
Just out of interest, when you pick up a major M$ update of this sort, is it putting drivers in place which might actually be older versions than you already had, so you have to go back to all your special gfx/snd/mobo sites and redo all the driver updates?
SP2 may contain "generic" MS driver updates and things like DirectX 9.0c but not specific videocard/soundcard type drivers. So it is highly unlikely you will have to reapply specific gfx/snd/mobo drivers you already have. In any event, if SP2 finds later versions already installed, I would expect it to ask before overwriting a newer version - MS have certainly done this in the past.
Like you though, I see no reason to apply SP2 as yet and I will backup my whole system before I do!

no worries man - I would have panicked just like you. At least you asked in a place where you have a chance of getting help instead of curling up in the fetal postion and crying.
Just a curiosity - what drivers were not installed?

Hey guys here is my problem statement and the solution
Problem: After installation I tried to play the game, but when i clicked on the shortcut or on the play rome total war it said please instert the correct cd. Problem was the correct cd WAS inserted.
Solution: Right Click my computer, go to properties, click on the hardware tab, click device manager, you now need to find IDE ATA/ATAPI Controlers. Click this. Whatever device is below this you need to update your drivers for. In my case I had to update my NVidia Platform driver. I went to www.nvidia.com went to download drivers at the top of the webpage. I then went to platform, unified, and chose windows xp. Install this, restart and WHALLA. Rome here we come.
Hopefully this helps you all and wasnt confusing. Once I got ahold of a REAL person on the phone at activision they were most helpfull. Call the number in the back of your manuall to get some help. Realize that you'll have to go through an automated system before you get real person!
I would also like to post my impressions of the game in the rome tw thread for all you Europeans out there, since im at work romeless for the next 4 hours. How many posts do I have to have to get over there?
