Low valour generals

After having one final go with MTW before the much anticipated RTW I found that my general had very low valour. As a consequence my army kept routing because of my cowardly general. Does anyone know the best way in a battle to increase the valour of your general or any other unit for that matter? :hide:

kill, kill, kill. the more non routing soldier you kill the faster your valour grows.
so, flank, attack weaker enemies, do what ever you have to kill more soldiers.
