This is in response to the question about flaming arrows (what's the point) in the RTW forum. As I'm a junior, I can't respond directly.

A couple of times while I was attacking a city, the AI shot flaming arrows at my battering ram as it was being pushed to the door. After a few hits, the ram caught fire and was rendered useless. I imagine they could have a similar effect on the seige towers. While I don't know, I imagine they may be useful against wooden palisades and walls as well....

Against men, I have heard that flaming arrows can cause a big morale hit on their targets, but are less accurate and have longer reload times. I've also read that they are more effective on troops with little or no armour (but isn't everything?).

As far as the onagers, the flaming rounds are much less accurate and take longer to reload, but when they do hit a pack of men they do a LOT of damage. It's quite impressive to see, really.

wow I didn't know that flaming arrows set battering rams on fire, cool!
