Hey all,
I did a quick scan and didn't see any screenshot threads so I'll start posting some here. I had a couple of other really nice battle screenies but forgot to paste them (grrrrr) before taking the next ones. And sometimes I just plain forget to take some
Anyway here you go:
Gauls-ram.JPG (http://flyingpig.theanykey.com/~tjenkins/RTW/Gauls-ram.JPG)
It seems to me that I've been fighting with small forces. This is the remnants of my "main" army with my faction leader Flavius Julius. Looking back I should have merged some of these partial Hastati to bring up to closer 80 man full stength. Notice in the bottom left, the radar shows another Julii army assaulting from the other side. This was Flavius' 17yr grandson - who was slain in the village center. Also you start with one unit of triarii and it'll take a long time to get more.
Gauls-pathingbug.jpg (http://flyingpig.theanykey.com/~tjenkins/RTW/Gauls-pathingbug.JPG)
Here's Flavius I believe 3 turns later. He was holding a ford against Gaul invaders. This was the second Gaulish army assault that turn. Yes, you can get attacked more than once a turn. The first assault was a tough one. This second was much easier since the AI got caught in a pathing bug. Note that this is exactly where the first battle was fought also so I don't know why the second time the AI had problems. Flavius' heavy cavalry came down and charged the flank of this mass of Gauls; it was not pretty (if you were rooting for the Gauls). I did have a scare as the cavalry got bogged down in the mass, I couldn't get them out and I was scared he was going to die. You'll see this battle referred to on the campaign map from this point on.
Gauls-spotted.jpg (http://flyingpig.theanykey.com/~tjenkins/RTW/Gauls-spotted.JPG)
This is from the campaign map; which is fantastic. I wanted to highlight a couple of things that you see here in case you (like I) hadn't heard about them. First the fog of war is alive and well. We see that this Gaulish army has 3 units & a faction leader. Notice that the watchtower spotted the Gauls. I'm not sure which pass they came through. The yellow is the distance that the army will be able to maneuver this turn so Segesta and Mediolanium are vulnerable.
Also on the town labels, the numbers next to the coins are the amount of money that town made (or lost) that turn. These two are pumping out the cash. Green faces mean everyone's happy, green man means population is growing, Segesta is constructing something (yellow tools).
Gauls counter attack? (http://flyingpig.theanykey.com/~tjenkins/RTW/Gauls-counter.JPG)
Here's the map from above without the Gauls highlighted. I had just taken Mediolanium if I remember correctly. They were a little late getting there to raise the seige.
This was also a monumtentus occasion, it was the first time Ariminum had shown a profit! :2thumbsup: It wouldn't last.
Units had a "zone of control" which force other factions to stop. Hopefully that fort along the road will force them to stop. Oh yeah, that fort is built in Gaulish territory, I don't own that province; its north of the red province line. Watchtowers however need to be built in your province.
AMBUSH! well almost (http://flyingpig.theanykey.com/~tjenkins/RTW/Gauls-ambush-failed.JPG)
Its been 3 years before I got my strength up to move on the other Gaulish town Patavium; just as the Senate demanded we take it. So of we go and I walked right into that ambush. Luckily it was our uber general and Faction leader Flavius. While we "had time to prepare" what that means is your troopers are at least facing the enemy but you don't get a chance to set them up; oh and no pre-battle speech either ~D .
The terms "captains" mean that they are not lead by faction (family) members and so are 0 star leaders. Lets see 10 star vs 0 star. Oh the Brutii equites came charging from behind me and smashed into 2 warbands. I waved as the Brutii went routing off the field chased by at least one warband. Hey no skin off my nose and they took one warband away. Lannildut tried to flank but my velites - off skirmish mode and behind the hastati - really hurt them. My counterflank worked and Lannildut never made it back to the hills.
Notice just south by the bridge there are crossed swords - that's the site of the previous "impressive victories" by our man Flavius.
The next turn Flavius received notification from the Senate he had been named Consul as he started the seige of Patavium. The next season he died of natural causes - there was a popup stating that Flavius the Infantryman had died. There was much wailing and crying but my wife hugged me and I felt better. His son-in-law had just joined him with reinforcements and took over the eventual successful seige.
That's all I have right now. I got negligent in my screenshot duties. Hopefully I'll get a chance to post some more.
