I found this screenshot on gamespot and i was wondering whether this was a rebel faction or not. As i have never seen them before. I have heard of mentions of rebel factions i think. How does it work beacause do yo have lots of different types of rebel factions beacause one scipi rebel province would have a very differernt army from say a gaul rebel army.

yep, those are Rebels; I can tell from the flag. The units are called Naked Warriors or something. You find these rebels in Germania and Gaul mostly.

The rebels pop up everywhere actually, I think CA did a good job with them, they arent suicidal like just attacking your armies and cities outright, but they can be a bother to your trade lines and such. They also like to block bridges and mountain passes.

So rebels have individual banners now, because I'm certain I saw some rebels with a very different banner charge across a bridge at the Brutii.

I think the ones in teh screen shot are brigand rebels (BTW< what do you call that emblem, the cloverleaf? reminds me of an interstate exchange)

I think other rebels have a pitchfork.

Just guessing.

And, yes, there seems to be many brigands in the game. They keep popping up in my Julii campaign (prologue and imperial). I am mostly ignoring them because they don't attack you and they are not easy to take out (they are often Hastati, not just peasants!).

I'm sure there is some way to avoid getting them, but I haven't figured it out.

In my Julii camp the brutii conquered the balkans and dacia then moved into sythian territory. And in doing left byzantium with only a small garrison which promply rebelled. Anyway Byzamtium had been a Thracian city and was built up so when it rebeled the rebels started building stuff like fleets and armies. The army was called a "gladiator revolt" army and the fleets was called pirate fleet.

If you let rebels sit too long in your territories, however, they'll start to devestate the land (causing those big scorch marks). You take a hit on income, so it's usually better to kill the rebels early before they do too much harm.

from memory, CA said somwhere there are actually different types of rebels -
Slaves
Brigands
Pirates

They all act as rebels, they just have different flags I think.

Another way to cut down on rebels in your land is to have the whole area garrisoned. If a lot of your land is not visible it means you are not keeping a watchfull eye on the land wich provokes rebellions.

What I do is I garrison the city for a loyal population. Then I garrison around the province so that nothing goes unseen in my territory. Also this method seems to make the city grow faster and actually reduces the garrison needed as I guess the people feel safer knowing the bandits are'nt running around robbing the masses. Also traders will want to come to your city because they know there are less chances of them being ambushed.

Also garrisoning the whole province allows you to see advancing armies before they get to your city so it's a doubl bonus.

Ever since I've been garrisong the whole territory instead of just the city, I noticed a lot less rebels popping up and you ca'nt ignore the rebels as it seems to make problems get worse. So if you ignore them they will just keep getting bigger and bigger

Not sure if it was covered in the manual but I found that merging a spy with your army increases their field of vision dramatically. Enough to cover some entire provinces.

Also, if you want to see around the whole province, build watchtowers.

Ever since I built watchtowers all in the mountains in Media rebels hardly ever appear. Puttig a spy in your army is really nice, keeps your general safe too.

But what if on the next turn you notice the general is gone and a certain somone getting the betrayal vice?

I had several rebel armies (in battle referred to as slaves) pop up in my two starting provinces (playing as Julii). After taking two nearby rebel cities, they stopped showing up. These armies were NOT coming from those cities, they just appeared nearby. Might be a coincidence that they stopped when I took the nearby rebels, but it might not.
