Anyone played the Seleucids yet. They are just amazing with all the adversity surrounding them. In my current campaign, I have no allies and facing off against Pontus, the Greek States, Parthia, Armenians and the Ptolemids. I'm sure this happens to everyone playing as the Seleucids.
For 5-6 years straight my fleet has been crippled time and time again. Seleucia has been besieged by Parthia every year and I've had to fight tooth and nail to keep my borders inviolate. Based on pure military strength i would been destroyed but thanks to the wealth of the Seleucids I've simply bribed potential invaders. Costly yes, and quite Byzantine-like.

Because of the Seleucids I didnt go to church today, very very naughty.

Am I complaining? No!

I have just attacked the Selcuids as the Parthians, have not yet played them. But I am impressed, and their chariots are very nasty. Fortuantly I have yet to deal with their elephants, but with my light horsearchers it takes a long time to kill their phanlaxes.

Haven't unlocked them yet, but they were the first faction to be wiped out in my campaign. Sounds like they are worth having a go as. ~D

Yeah they were whiped out last year on my campaign. They were at war with everyone bordering them and didn't have much of a chance - I can't wait to play as them.

In my campaign as Pontus, I destroyed them after driving the greeks out of annatollia. They didn't put up much of a fight, the only problem was that immediately upon victory, the Egyptians came right on up and declared war on my weakened forces. This, combined with the plague, is making for a very long fight. The Seleucids are very dead now, however.

They don't really interest me, their starting position is too wide and unfocused. The main reason I play as the small factions is that I don't like starting off with large chunks of territory, I like to gain it on my own terms.

Hmmm... Sounds very much like a HRE of RTW (heh just shorten every word and it becomes a nice world). I get the feeling they will be my favs, just like the HRE was.

The Seleucids do have a rough go of it in my camp with them I started before I went to work this morning they were coming under threat from a lot of places. Since I'm doing a short camp the Egyptians are fixated on me, the ponticans are getting more threating every year and the greeks will come knocking on my door any day know. The only bright spot was that I had made an alliance with the parthians so that border was relatively secure. But once I get the economy jumping and a few armies of pikemen elephants and cataphracts and silver shield legioanries I think i can get the better of my foes.

In my campaign as the Greeks, they have been pushed into one provence that hugs the map edge by the Egyptians, who are consuming everything in sight. Hmmm, some one mentioned writing AARs for RTW earlier. I think that the Seleucids would be an excellent choice for such and endevour.

The Seleucids are interesting to play. They have a good combination of units, a good economic base and plenty of enemies to sharpen their skills on.

I'm currently fighting my way westwards with them having crushed Pontus, the Greek Cities and Egypt (always get rid of those pesky little devils, that's my advice) and made the Parthians bow the knee and become a Protectorate. I even found the cash to buy a couple of provinces from the Scythians too.

What surprised me most was that my faction leader was still in the field aged 83! This splendid old gentleman was worth his weight in gold, especially on the battlefield where his 44-strong, highly experienced bodyguard could be relied on to do the right thing every time. ~:)

Coming to work is definitely worthwhile!

Sounds like the Seleucids are a blast to play, though I'm sure there'll be plenty of gnashing of teeth on my side when I'm playing my first game as them! :D

(As soon as the game gets here in Europe that is :p )

Ive been trying the Seleucids 2 times heh, first thing you have to do is to kill the Egypts fast thats very hard though especialy on Very Hard settings...if you manage then you´ll start to kick ass..

Its the hardest faction so far.

Hehehe, the hardest factions overall that I've played is the spanish. The gauls just send in several maximum size armies on turn 7 or so and annihilate you.

Captain fishpants is right, good for sharpening skills.

I've got guys like Gyras with names like "Gyras the mighty" because he's been fending of Pontians away from Tarsus for year and years.

When I get their cities I just simply massacred the population...revenge.

so far I've pushed south and captured the ptolemaid capital and the north to capture the parthian capital, but not without spending lots of denarii, tears and men's lives to get it.

SELEUCIDS ARE A BLAST.

But my fleet isn't, I've lost 5 fleets already because of everyone GAH!!!
