Hey there all,

Just got the original Shogun the other day and loved it. Would have liked to have gotten MI to but was all out of stock in my local game store, so I bought Medieval instead (well order it, its on its way).

Now my question's are mainly for shogun the original version, no warlord edition or MI.

1.) I was playing through campaign the other day and was the only clan left, bar rebels. I thought I would seens as I had had quite a hard time of it up until now, relax my forces, and build up my provinces technologies and fortify my exisiting castle to max tech before I slowly roll out and sweep away the rebel forces one by one, slowly and methodically. however it reached around the 1600's in game time. I had 2 hiers left at the turn of the century, one 45 (the current dymio) and the other 24. by the middle of the centurey (approx 50 years later) they both died of natural causes without producing any hiers at all. effectively ending my campaign. I was a little bewildered. Is this a feature of the game. Is it set to not allow you to play the campaign for too long. Will they always die out round about that time frame? or was I just terribly unlucky?

2.) Does MI add alot of difference to shogun as I like it but feel it could use just a little more, if MI provides that, I'll continue to search for it even though I am getting medival. Yeah I know thats supposedly better in some areas but I like the whole oriental feel so that will probably keep me playing shogun anyway even with Medieval.

3.) any tips for controlling a large army. I can manage upto 6-7 units easily but as soon as it gets more than that I find myself struggling with groupin and moving in formation, basic stuff. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for any help in advance http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

hello Wayan and wellcome
1. the campaign was ending because the game is made in this way; it is a feature of the game the ending of ur campaign
in history the Tokugawa clan secure his predominant position around 1605(Tokugawa Bakufu -u can read more about japanese history here www.samurai-archives.com (http://www.samurai-archives.com) -great site made by some patrons from this forum) so playin 50 years after 1600 is too long dont ya think? anyway, havin only rebels u moved up too slow i think http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
in 1620 u should already conquer all; so u are right , u wasnt unlucky at all ;thats why the legendary gheisha exists in the game , she is almost unbeatable in assasination , and when gheishas appears, the game is about to end;

2.MI is an what if scenario.the mongol armies of Kubilay-Khan manage to make a safe foothold on japanese shore ( remember that japan was saved by a mongol invasion by a storm called "kamikaze" ehich sunk almost all the mongol invasion fleet )
also is good to play WE ( Warlord Edition ) it adds more starting position for clans in diffrent periods
I like the oriental feel too http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

3.well , first tip is to keep trying and practicing; u will find a lot of advices here in totalwar.org;a few links : http://shogun-academy.tripod.com/ http://www.geocities.com/totalwarshogun/ http://terazawa.totalwar.org/ http://www.mongols.club.tip.nl/

Thanks for the advice.

I now have Shogun:Tw and Medieval. I got Medieval and like it but find myself still playing shogun for now as I like the oriental theme and find all the micro management a lil too much to bear. Maybe cause I'm a newbie. I intend to play it eventually but right now shogun is where I'm at. One good thing about Medieval its tutorials where good and going through them has helped my army management/tactic skills for shogun http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif. Gonna play S:TW for a while (oh and MI when it comes, orderd it).

Anyway I have another question. Is it possible like in Medieval to restock/train low numbered units. I have a few units worse the wear from battle and would like to get them back to full strength. How can I (if possibe) do that? or do I have to just build new units?

i dont think that in the original Shogun u can train units ( i dont remember that , i`m not sure ) but in the Warlord Edition u can combine units of the same type by drag a unit in the box of another or if u have the facilities to train that kind of troops u can put the depleted unit in the panel that shows u the units u are about to train;
i dont remeber that features in the original Shogun but this exists in the Warlord Edtion;
sorry for my english , i dont know if i explained u clear enough

remember to check your version of STW and download the latest patch in order to straighten things out for more enjoyment.

you can combine units in stw that have suffered losses. but to totally re-train units i think you gotta have MI or warlord edition, basically you have to have a drill dojo and the specific dojo you would normally need in a province to train that unit in the first place. there, think that makes sense
