I had a single surviving general unit from a settlement that was overrun by Romans. He escaped with 6 men. According to the manual, I should be able to withdraw from the battlefield using "W" instead of alt "W" as in MTW. However W didn't work.

Does "W" withdraw units or is there another key to be used? Has anyone successfully withdrew a unit from the battlefield?

I am having a lot of problems with the group commands as well. When I try to launch multiple units using the group tab to activate, often no units activate. I have to go in and individually activate units. When I try to do group deployments, sometimes I will get units scattered all over the place. I seem to remember this problem with MTW when it first came out. Anyone else seeing this problem.

Ambushes work very well on the tactical battlefield. As the Gauls, they really help to even things out a bit. However I have never been able to do an ambush on the strategic map. I have one set in front of Patavian but the Romans won't approach. Hopefully, sooner rather than later.

PS: Seeing the Brit chariots approach your lines for the very first time is a sight to behold........

Hotkey? Not off the top of my head - but it should be listed on the back cover of the manual. You can also hit the "white flag" button the appears on the right side of the screen when you select a unit.

Regarding groups - do you use the formations sub-menu that you access after you group (just press the Eagle button). To form a single line you must first group - and then go to that menu and hit the single line button. This gives a nice line that you can then position as needed.

I haven't had any luck yet with Withdrawing. I fought a seige and lost 600/1000 men and thought I'd withdraw and wait for reinforcements - somehow all of those units (including a family member) died after I withdrew from the battle....strange....

Yes, withdrawing seems to have different conditions placed on it than in MTW. According to the manual, hitting the white flag icon will cause a unit to go to an out-of-bounds position, no mention of the 'W' key that (I think?) is in the Game Controls screen.

I've also had weird results from withdrawals... lost units, units trying to withdraw straight through the enemy lines.

I read somewhere about armies being disbanded if they suffer too many casulties, could this be the cause??
