Granted, I haven't got the game, haven't even seen it, but judging by all the screenshots on this .org and the twc site the battlefield graphics and particularly the colours seem a little over the top. The Carthaginians with their flashy little swords and matching white skirts are too sassy for my taste, the Gauls wear a seasonal green that should set any Roman in his right mind fleeing and those pink kataphrakts are so next week I almost threw up when I first laid eyes on them. I also happened upon a ridiculous screenshot of a war elephant that looked like a stuck-up 1960's Hollywood prop minus la Taylor. I'm serious, my girlfriend who appreciates STW and MTW if anything for their graphic sophistication had to laugh all the way to the grocer's after she saw the screens. Frankly, if this aspect isn't moddable -- and I'm talking major reskin here -- my experience with my ordered copy of RTW will be about as brief as Sinatra's fling with Ava Gardner. :inquisitive:

Admittedly the look of the troops could be better done, but I still think its a VAST improvement over Shogun and Medieval. Goofy outfits are better than little pixels in my mind.

I'm sure it'd be easy enough to change the colors of the troops.

I also hope someone comes out with a Variety-Face mod. While its not really problematic with the Romans because of their helmets and such, seeing three thousand Gauls with identical beards and ponytails is kinda funny. I remember seeing an old gameplay movie where the barbarians all had different faces....

I saw a recent post by a dev where he said reskinning was possible, but it's the whole unit that gets changed.

People who still do not have the game are still complaining about the game ;)

The models look much much much better than the previous games.

I love the way the models look. Granted, I have only fought a few of the factions and haven't seen most of them. However, I get goosebumps of glee when I zoom down close to my lines of Legionaries and feel the thump of my bass at the sound of their footsteps. Most often I feel sorry for the poor bastards on the receiving end.

Don't they know I'm Roman? Silly people, run away!
