View Full Version : Nooby Faction Questions
Retinue
What happens to my general's retinue when they die? I had a dude with a ton of great hangers on and now I can't find them. It seems they should go to the faction heir.

When I juggle the designated heir, what does the original designee think? Is there anyway for a Cain / Abel struggle to break out?

1. The retinue dies with the general. Of course if you have two generals in the same location then you can just drag and drop retinue members from one to the other. It's usually a good idea to do this when someone's getting over the hill.
2. I changed a designated heir once and didn't have any problems, don't know if that was a fluke or not...
Another question on Retinue.
Is there a limit to the number of retainers a faction member can have? I've got an old faction leader with a pot full of retainers, so I moved some of the other generals over to his house and started dividing up the retinue. Most of them went over OK. Some who didn't were obviously duplicates, Priests especially.
But, a couple wouldn't transfer. A mathematician, a librarian and some other dude. If memory serves, these guys weren't named beyond their speciality. Are these generic retainers non transferrable?

One thing I ran into is you can't have two of the same dudes on the same family member.
So you can't put, for example, a second "Mentor" on a guy who already has one.

1: Yep the retinue dies with the character.
2:I changed the heir once on my Julii campaign and my ex heir had a new quirk saying he was an ex heir. Can't remember what the quirk did. Think it lowered his influence and had some other negative stuff with it.
3: I think i read that there is a limit to 8 retinue's to a character

He gains the disinherited trait: -1 influence
I've been able to transfer generic and named retinues around freely. (As long as I wasn't trying to give one guy two poets etc)
However I can never get more than 8 retinue characters for any general.
This makes it really hard to swap retinue between two generals who both have their full complement. I'd like a 'dismiss retinue' button or something
When I switch faction heirs, I usually get the 'disinherited' vice which is a -1 influence.
An easy way to get rid of bad retainers is to give them to a general who is about to die. When he croaks his retainers go with him. I tend to weed out some lesser retainers if my regular generals are near full in case I get more.
