Last night i withdraw from two battles and when I get back out to the map, my armies are not outside the city, and my general is gone? Can u locate your general somehow or we do they go when they withdraw?

Try right-clicking on the Armies tab in the review panel to bring up a list of all your armies (same thing with Agents).
See if he's there.
Did you get a family death notice on the next turn?

Where is the review panel? I didnt get a death notice, I might add that this was during town-sieges.

The review panel is the main panel in the bottom center of the screen. Shows your City (and Army and Agent) details. Has a row of tabs across the top (City, Army, Agents ...) Right-clicking on one of those tabs brings up a detailed (kinda) list.

I had a supporting general die in a town assault last night. There was no death notice after the battle or at the start of the next turn, it looked like his unit just dissapeared. You can always check the family tree too, if he did die and his card is grayed out their will be a death date underneath it.

I've had the same problem, I was assaulting a city with 3 armies (had about 8 generals in total, was on a major conquest!) when the people in the city attacked me before i could assault. I had control of the smallest army while the AI had control of the other armies, then they decided to cluster fuck and I had to sit back till time ran out. When it got back to the main map my other armies had disappeared!
