View Full Version : Have you seen the wonders?

I haven't seen anyone mention this, so I thought I'd ask.
The game has some short videos when you take over wonders (The Colossus, Zeus statue, etc) that feature them in RTW environment. Has anyone fought near those and seen the wonders on battle map? I think it would be a fantastic site, but I haven't been able to test the idea - didn't have armies there to fight against. So what do you think - possible to see them or not?
I can swear I remember the devs telling in preview that one of the features was to see the environment that's on the map - i.e. if it was river, you get to see it, a mountain - you see it, etc... The closest I've come to this was to witness an ocasional stone hange (just called 'hange') in german forrests (??). :book:
Please leave your thoughts.

Henge. The circular gatherings of pre-celtic civs. But no, I havent seen them in battle either. Though I am miffed that there's no Solomon's Temple.

potato potAto.. :P
I did fight on the same square the Colossus was standing - an I didn't see it - I went around the whole map = no COlossus, but I see the coast and all.. Bummer. it would have been a fantastic sight.. :(
The pyramids would be a good test for this. Anybody fighting any battles around there? See anything pointy in the distance?

The videos appear to be made with the game engine so that leads me to believe even if they are not on the map the models are located somewhere in the files and it might be possible to mod them in...maybe :)

I haven't tried them yey, but wouldn't you be able to set up a custom battle around the wonders if they are on the campain map.

That's what I thought - the wonders looked made with game engine and appeared on battle map... I hope it is moddable at least... didn't try custom battle - but I don't think it's possible...

I've taken the two in Egypt, but my battles were not close enough to show the Wonders. Kudos to CA for adding the Wonder effect. This is one of those things that keeps me coming back for more in the series.
I do enjoy seeing smoking volcanoes in the background of some battles. Anyone managed to have a battle during an eruption? It would be really cool if ash was falling and the sky was dark with a glow on the horizon... The eruptions are fun to watch on the map.

These are the early shots, and I thought I saw a piramid there, but it's just some large palace...

Will have to take screenies --- I fought several near Etna and in two of them it was smoking away... no ash falling down though, or lava bombs. Pity. ~:)

BTW, am I the only one to be mad about not getting those (^^^) Egyptian walls? I mean they are stunning, yet I get the generic Sahara/africa type. Why did they leave out those nice walls and towers... :( They are so great to fight on, sometimes they look so unreal in terms of height, yet according to accounts they indeed were built up that high...
If someone wished to see a battle close to a Volcano... :)
I was on a campaign in Italy, chasing these evil Scipii from my beloved Syracuse to their own heartland, and there was a battle close to Capua.

I had a battle with a volcano smoking away. It was pretty cool because it was a beach battle and the i could see the volcano smoking far away in the distance across the water

Who will be the first to get a screenie with an erupting volcano? (In battle map.)
 I've got it! You should be able to see the volcano from the town map during an eruption. So even if you don't get a battle, you should be able to view your city close up and see it that way. I really need to try that and see if I can change time of day. I'll bet it is cool at night!

Wow, that last screenie is nice. I am definitely going to have to try larger unit sizes on my next campaign!

There is no difference between the "smoking volcano" and the "erupting volcano" on the battle map, sorry.
Tried it :)

So howdid you get the Pyramids in your battle Celtibero? I fought there twice (well really close at least), never saw them...
the screen is from some promo pics a whole back, there is also a vid of gameplay of this battle i think, so u might see them there. best way to test though is to have the battle there yourself, try and force the conflict, even bait the enemy there, and try, though id like to see some actual screens of them.
As for the colossus, i dont think thats on its said square, try have a battle at the port, seeing as thats where the colossus straddled

The Colossus doesn't appear on battle maps because it doesn't have any graphics files assigned to it (i.e. they don't exist). Which is a bit of a shame.

If the Wonders are on the battlemap, as buidings, are they destroyable? I wonder how does it feel to wreck a wonder...Hummmm, psycho...
There was a video with soldiers running around the pyramids, but I think you can“t see the wonders. And I doubt to be able to see the colossus at any port bcause I had a fight at a port once and there was not even a port...
