View Full Version : So much for Epic walls.

Well I spent a good 20000 Denarii to get my walls up to epic size, after reading the description that nothing could knock em down basically, I was feeling kinda safe. Until 120 archers with 1 sap point knocked down the entire wall. Sigh. Dont even bother with epic walls people, waste of money. Stone walls do the same job and dont allow them to have steel coated towers to boot. I managed to destroy 2 rams, 3 sap points, and 1 out of 2 siege towers. My 5 units of archers were raining death till the above happened. I figured it would take either more than 1 sap point to knock down and EPIC wall, or at least more than 1 minute of sapping. :embarassed:

They should allow for counter-sapping. It was a fairly common response, if innacurate.

Yeah, I was wondering about countersapping as well.

I guess you forgot to go out there and wreck the Sapping point then? ~;)
Still I do hope you had a few Hoplites waiting on the other side of the breach! ~D

I have built epic walls around my Capital but haven't tested them out yet (look impressive though... ~:) )...
Do you get any advantage from them???

The larger walls have towers that fire at siege engines. The epic walls I assume do that even better than smaller walls. It is wonderful to hold a city with large stone walls, watch the towers fire the siege engines and then gloat as a vast army has to leave as they lack the means to assault a city

It appears epic walls only grant ballista towers and larger standing area at the top of the wall. You can place more combat soldiers behind your archers. I didnt see that much if any increase in the amount of arrows being let loose. In fact it seemed like less. But the whole point was that a single sap point can take down a wall 30 feet thick in 1 minute. ~ I dont see a point in upgrading past stone walls cause once you do there siege towers are no longer wood anyway, they have metal plates on the side. I think its actually easier to defend with stone walls than large or epic. Ive done em all and thats my conclusion.
Yeah, the epic walls have repeating ballistas I think....I lost 2 testudo'ed units to the epic walls in Rome before I learned that....
as for the immense steel-coated siege towers, why doesn't it take longer/cost more build points to build them? Makes it kind of pointless when you can build one for the same 65 points as a crappy little one....
as for sap points, just shoot them with fire arrows....duh ~;)
