Well, we have another thread devoted to how clicking the fast forward buttons is very hard, and the key combo randomly decides whether it will work or not. However, it seems to me that everything in this game is like that.
Units very often simply ignore you when you tell them to attack. Other times they will stop running halfway through their trip and walk the rest of the way. On one occasion hitting the "run" button did nothing and I had to go to each of the 6 units in the group individually and hit the run button for each. ~
Inside of town sqaures, units act confused and don't move properly. I command my men to run in to the other edge of the square and instead they run to the center.
Every battle I get at least several weird occurances like this. Is everyone else getting these too?
Yeah Im getting some problems like that. The thing is thought that on SP it isn't too big a deal and doesn't really cause too many problems. On MP (I've yet to play) I'm sure it causes big troubles. The most annoying one for me is when the general is attacking somebody in town it will sometimes take the path straight through the enemy instead around like i told him. Have lost valuable people doing that and now mostly keep my general out of big melees even if he had a great charge from behind ill hesitate and really consider doing it.
Units also have stupid pathfinding in sieges. I ask them to run further inside and they run outside, mill around before going back inside again. I asked my horse archers to move outside and they move further inside, trapping them.
When I click testudo, sometimes they form, sometimes they don't. When I turn fire at will mode off, they fire 2-3 more volleys before they stop. Alt-click doesn't seem to work sometimes, either. I also need to keep clicking move again and again for a unit to move, sometimes. I have no idea what's going on with the controls.

Yes, I have the same impression. It really doesn't fit with the super fast game speed: here, we'll speed it up 16x for you, and you have to click each command twice! CA said some things about not having to manage your army so much on an individual unit scale, but I've seen nothing to suggest that is accurate. If anything they made it harder to control individual units and the group command features we really need are utterly absent.

My militia hoplites ran outside the city when I told them to run up to the top of the wall to attack those hastati who were up there.
it lost me the city via letting their troops in
wooooo.... and they wouldn't run back in - some would, but there were like 5 morons who enjoyed having a nice sunny day stroll back through the gates - getting slaughtered as they took their sweet time getting back

There should be a "Lock the Gates" Function

Yes sometimes it's a pain in the ass because you tell for instance a unit of legionaries to run around the side of an enemy unit so they are behind to the side and facing them (so you can charge into their rear) and they run right into them....wtf?
The "delay" you are all talking about is something they mentioned a long long time ago - the further your unit is from the general the longer it takes for the order to reach that unit, and that is what causes the delay. A "feature" rather than a bug and something that I think is actually pretty cool....
