View Full Version : Faction unlocking - which are unlockable, and what must I do to unlock them?

Hi!

Just won the Imperical Campaign, and I got not all factions to play with.

What qualifies for having a faction unlocked?

Destroying the Faction does, ending the Imperial Campaign probably unlocks all unlockable Factions?

BTW... :)

The End of the Long Campaign. As you can see, the same as in Rise of Rome (Civ3 Conquests Scenario, for those who know it): I did not mess with the Greeks, hardly with the Britons and I was for hundred years at peace with the Germans.

The most savage Battles were in the East and against Macedon, the last Faction to fall: CAVALRY units really rule in this game, and Macedon Light Lancers and Scythian Missile Archers are the only greater nuisance I encountered.

Note that the Brutii survived, with SPQR and Scipii long gone. I envy them, they were in every turn richer than me.

The following Factions got unlocked for play:

Julii, Brutii, Scipii (Standard)

Egypt (alive)
Seleucids (alive)
Parthia (alive)
Germania (alive)
Britannia (alive)

Carthage (deceased)
Gauls (the first to go...)
Greek Cities (deceased, got the leader, became Rebel Cities)

Unplayable? :duel:

Macedon (deceased in the moment of Victory - perhaps this is why they are not unlocked?)
Spain (deceased, known to be unplayable)
Thrace (deceased)
Dacia (deceased)
Numidia (deceased)

Alive:
Pontus
Armenia
Scythia

You need to unlock those by your self, by editing the txt file..search for unlock factions here in the colosseum

Well you can keep senate in unlayable because it crashes if you go to diplomacy or senate.

I wouldn't recommend playing as the Senate though. The game tend to be messed up.

I recommend downloading the "Fixed Factions mod" where Luvian at twcenter.net added family portraits and descriptions to the originally unplayable factions:

Now what's this? A clicky! (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=10074)

~ Thanks for the clicky! :)

I think I will just copy MY file over (it is probably enough to copy the "unlocked.txt" over) - I do not want to play "unplayable" factions, I just need the same state of affairs on my Notebook.

Going to play RTW on it next week. This is why I asked. :)

If you don't plan to use the "unplayable" factions, you don't need to do ANYTHING.
Winning the game with is sufficient to play with all the playble factions, you already got all the ones you could.

Why on earth not? They're practically complete dude! I honestly don't understand why CA didn't include them...

Hey! You misunderstood me.

I am a rich guy and have both a desktop and a notebook. I do not really want to play the whole campaign again to unlock the factions on my notebook, too.

The smartest way would probably be to copy over a savegame of the last turn of the Imp. Campaign and finish it.

But unlocked.txt works, too.

What if I ever deinstall Rome? I will keep those files. Perhaps will CA add that all playable Factions are unlocked or all are made playable (Leaderheads / Glowing Map added) in the "final" patch or so.

that was one of the major drawbacks to unlocking factions. What happens if you have to reformat your pc? You will have to do it over again...or cheat ~:)

... or upload a savegame to the org. I'm pretty certain that it will help a lot of people quite a few times. At least then they wouldn't have to complain. ~;)

Why what happens??
I'd like to be able to play as the senate, just to see what it feels like to police around being able to do whatever i want.

Yes, well, not the prologue I think, but the first Imperial Campaign (wether short or normal) will unlock the Carthage.

Inuyasha12:
If you play the Senate, the game will crash if you look at the senate offices list or the senate tab in the information screen. And you can't complete the game since you can't kill yourself ~;p.
