View Full Version : Anyone having problems with Cav auxilia in skirmish mode vs. calvary?

They seem to run toward the other cav, and stop while in range, and just sit there while they take 11ty billion years getting into the ready position. In the meantime, their targets charge them and kills quite a few. Just my cav axuilia is about to shoot, the suddently stop because they realize they are too close, and the run away a little bit. Then the process repeats itself, resulting in total loss without inflicting any damage.
Velitites and archers don't seem to have the problem against other infantry of the same speed or slower speed. Cav auxilia should be able to out run the heavy cavs and yet they don't work the same as missile infantry. Cav archers doesn't seem to have this problem...
I've seen some similiar things...not just with Cav Aux, but all skirmisher horseman it seems. I've found it happens mostly when I "double click" to charge at the enemy...they'll run most the way then just stop...most the times they don't move again. I've found that they charge with just a single click though, and when I go that route, they usually end up attacking.
The AI also seems to get confused when issueing the same command to multiple troops. I think it's trying to get them all on the same pathing rail as opposed to selecting pathing rails for each individual unit. For instance, I'll select all my units, and then click on a town square in a city I'm invading and all my troops will try to leave the city to get on the same pathing rail, then go back in.
I would imagine that the two issues are related. Hopefully it's a bug that will be fixed with the first patch cause it drives me nuts. You'll have 5 units of Skirm Calv who wont do squat...then the time on the battle runs out.
Anyway, try single clicking for charge and doing it for each individual unit instead of issueing group commands and it seems to have more success. GL

I have a problem with my mounted skirmishers sometimes like you say. I find that their AI skirmish mod works best when their troops don't move until your skirmishers fire their first missile - or else their "fire Missile" animation kicks in and they dont' do anything until that animation is done - you can't even tell them to stop doing that, they'll just sit and get slaughtered time and again (usually)

good observation... i've noticed both seperately but haven't put two and two together... i'll give it run through to see if it's any better
