What is the deal with there upkeep? 200 denari ?

Geez there just missile units and have a higher upkeep than many frontline troops. From my understanding missile troops did'nt recieve a high respect from melee troops and did not get as high of a pay as they did. So is this just a game balance deal or did slingers recieve a high pay due to there specialty and it took many years to become a good slinger.

Both Baeleric and Rhodian slingers kick so much ass that i think the upkeep is good, deadly units.

yeah that upkeep is more gameplay - not historic

plus I don't think there were too many populations of people who were readily able to take to the battlefield as slingers. I guess the high upkeep makes it so that you won't have whole armies of slingers which makes it historic again.

yay it's like a circle

edit - I just played a battle with 4 units of slingers vs 3 units of Hastati. It was 190 Kills for me vs 0 kills for them. THe only deaths I got was from friendly fire within my own ranks :embarassed:

Yeah it sounds fair. What I dont understand is the silly low support costs for heavy cav. Cav is actually cheaper in support compared to MTW that was supposed to an era of heavy knights. Most heavy cav are cheaper then inf units now..

Slingers are better on stats/melee than normal Archers. I guess that's the balancing portion.

I disbanded the free Rhodian ones I got from the senate early on, thinking they were really weak. When I tried the Balearic, they are so effective. Just don't use them in the middle or you'll lose so much troops. Use them on the fringes of your line.

left flank of your army taking out their right flank

their right flank = no shield = more casualties :D
