View Full Version : Improved general's bodyguard? Not working?
When do you get this? Not after marius reforms (though the Imp Pal says that it "provides" the improved guard).
Most of my games go very quickly, so if it's time dependent, i haven't experienced it yet.
You got them when you build a big enough Governor's house.
No that's the same as the marius reforms.
The Imp Pal description says that it provides improved general's bodyguards, but it does not seem to do so. I've tried combo circus/imp pal, and I've tried moving the capital to the city with imp pal and/or circ max, but still all the generals ahve the same old stats.
For what it's worth I should add that retraining does nothing. (or actually, is not even possible unless there are other upgrade, e.g. blacksmith, that the general unit is missing)
edit2: come to think of it, does retraining generals work? i recall retraining generals on a number of occasions, but I don't recall ever seeing armor or weapon upgrades on them.

I have retrained faction members many times. They get any upgrades other like cav would get.
has no one seen an improved general?
should have stats the same as praetorian cav (12 atk, 22 def) except 2 hp rather than 1.
bump. has anyone seen an improved bodyguard unit? Do they exist other than in MP?
On a slightly related note, has anyone figured out the pattern for number of genral bodyguards and their regeneration rates?
I have found mixed behaviors, some Generals replenish their losses quickly some don't, i have great generals with bodyguards not going over 16, while others would rise (my first impression was that it was proportional to experience).
Faction leader seems to be consisten has he always has 40-50 bodyguards (Romans only, so far).

I've had a general with 60 bodyguards, and he wasn't my faction leader.
faction leader and heir get extra bodyguards. if you don't mind the -1 influence (disinherited trait), you can switch faction heirs back and forth and get all your gneerals extra bodyguards.
Recognized the problem with upgrades as well, I didn´t get any better generals with the Scipii, Greeks and Parthians, especially with the greeks it was bad, their generals couldn´t even stand to rebel-generals, so I was hoping for the upgrade, but I got none, similar with the Parthians, my generals still look somehow like persian cav with spears, but as I know from single battles they should at least look like cataphracts after you got the Imperial Palace. Perhaps a bug? ~
Bump
Any new findings on this one?

you get it when you build the latest version of governers villa
but in my game it doesn't work i dont get the upgraded version thats also on custom battles new fam members just get the old bodygaurds
I haven't seen my improved eggy generals yet. I'll run a couple of turns with my capitol in my town with the palace and see if I get them.

If an imperial palace would be needed, this would also mean that barbarians could never get improved general units.
i heard that this is actually a bug . read it from some thread forgot where it is
I think it is mentioned in the great bug thread.
We can all be happy that the Parthians don't get their general, if you check the stats they are nasty! A combination of Cataphracts (defense, armour and AP) and Companions (charge and attack). You do not want to face one of those.

AFAIK the feature just plain doesn't work. I resolved the issue by copy-pasting the "late" bodyguards' stats over the basic ones'. 'Course, now I don't have the "early" bodyguards at the start, but screw that - I got totally fed up with watching the "earlies" in their mail shirts in the long Roman campaign.
Plus I started feeling serious pity for those Egyptian generals in their eggshell chariots. Not much to be done with the Brits though, unless you copy the "lates" of some othe rbarbarian faction over theirs...
well the stats did change though jsut that your bofyguard model doesnt change. so your attack and defense and blah blah blah did change. JUST their clothes >

WHAT??? You've been wearing the same underwear for the past 200 years??? GAH! And I thought you were carrying a dead possum in your knapsack.

If there is any general I don't feel bad about then it is the Egyptians. One damned genereal can ruin the day for the Seleucids (unless you bring your own chariots early).
