Can't there anybody make a movie about HERMAN THE LIBERATOR? He succsessfully protected the germans and the slavs from beeing colonised and destroyed by the romans, and aswell fought genius battles...

Without him all this would not existed: Colnisation of the North through romans = English, Germans, Poles, Czech, Danes and dutch died out! And with them the americans too...

Isn't a such important figure worth of a movie? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Sorry, really forgot... Sorry, Sorry! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

But indeed without him winning the roman wars, all Germanic people and the nearest Slavic tribes would have died out through romanisation! It's the fate of more than 350 Million people today that has been decided in those days, so it would be absolutely EPIC! And it are even more than just the Germanics influented by that: If you take them out of History the Romans would have probably survived and with the use of the Troops based on the Limes other enemies of the Romans could have been eliminated who surrvived with luck. These are the Briton Celts, the Scytians or the Arabs to add some examples!

So, a point of historic decide...

Just try to imagine that and also think of him like the buddy who made what Vercingetorix was unable too... I think that would make the movie interessting enough and through newest technology, imagine how the Battlescenes would be like!

You are right of course, it would be a great movie (btw have you seen the Sturm über Europa series?), but you shouldn't be so sure that the Romans would push on further North. Frankly, I see no reason why they should have. Only thing to gain was enormous forests and swamps filled with war-loving barbarians with pointy sticks. The Romans also absolutely hated the way the germanic tribes fought (guerilla avant la lettre), they just didn't think it was worth the trouble. And the Romans hated cold weather too.

That link seems to be more about the evolutino of Papal authority than Early germanic war leader!!

However there is one minor problem with this stirring tale.

The Romans had no great desire to conquer and rule Germany beyond the Rhine AFAIK.

Their expeditions into germany were usually about "erstructuring" the balance of power there - striking at tribes that had gotten too powerful and were raiding into Roman territory or otherwise "interferring" with Rome more than could be tolerated.

If you look at your map you'll see they had not stopped: There is the Strategic importancy in naval that Jutland has, so Danes were death. So romans would get there an place a Fleet at the Gate of the Northern to the baltic sea. Then they would have never left the recources in Germania, Poland and Boemia without taxes for the Imperium. Compare it to other wars the romans started: There was no peacheful mission to conquer Britannia! And Britannia was not much "richer" then Germania... Romans are like Scientology, they have never enough.

Also, if there was an Acient mod and you played the Romans, wouldn't you do the same incause you conquered Germania?

Hermann the Liberator is not an early leader, the Germanic Culture was already older than Rome when he came...

Some popular Info isn't correct: Germanics did not raid the Roman Empire before and did not take bait in the Varus Battle! They left the death romans on the field and guided a roman Legatus to the Bodies... For Propaganda Tiberius did not deliver them home, he spread the Message that the Barbarians had sacrificed the Bodies to their gods or someshit. The death have been found in Kalkriese, all with their Armor and weapons... even with Rings and other expensive Stuff... the Signum was also left on the Battlefield.

In 2009 the Victory of Germania will have last for 2000 years!!! And look in your History Book: In this long period of time, no Invader has enslaved Germany and almost all decandants of the Germanics have developed to world powers!

Or am I wrong at that point? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
