View Full Version : Question about the patch

Hi all - please forgive my ignorance here - I'm running RTW with the kill speed mod and the slower speed mod (and having a blast) - my question is, if I install the patch, will this remove either of these mods? I see they've toned down the elephants, which makes me think this will affect the mods I'm running, but I was just hoping someone could confirm this?

Sorry if this has been asked and answered elsewhere!

I do the same. The only file I have been modding that was affected is the export_descr_unit.txt in which they reduced the elephant health value by about 15%. You should be ok with the others.

I don't know how the movement speed mod is implemented, I think it is in a separate file that wasn't overwritten by the patch. However, the kill rate mod is done by changing the stats in the units file. So if you apply the patch it overwrites this file. Someone will need to write new files for the kill rate mod (or copy the other changes to the elephants over to it and replace the new version of unit stats from the patch.)

Thanks chaps!
The thing is, as I don't plan on doing any MP (not with my piddly 56kbs modem, anyway), I'm not sure whether it's worth applying the patch. I've not battled elephants in my travels so far (except in the demo), so maybe I'll save myself the headache and leave things as they are...

Check back in two days when I'll be starting the "OMG! Those elephants suck! They're so overpowered! Where's that patch gone?" thread.

The elephant changes were pretty mild stats wise. Unless they changed something in the .exe that is hardcoded, I think you will find elephants only slightly different than before. I have yet to see an elephants suck thread (from the standpoint of them being too weak.) Until I do, I suspect the elephants are still a bit uber.

I don't recall seeing any changes to the elephants in the stat file after the patch, but then again I'm using the realism mod from the town center board. You might want to try it Red Harvest. I think you'd like it. Some of the concerns you've been talking about on the Colliseum forum have been addressed.

Copy your Rome directory and rename it 'Mod' or something, I'm sure the patch is bound to affect it. I am using both the Mods you mention plus the faction fix and there is no way I would sacrifice these ( a vast improvement ) just for some emergency patch which as far as I can see is mainly a fix for MP
