I'm sieging the Egyptians in Memphis and I managed to rout their Chariot General. I asked my Bedouin Camel Warriors to chase them and they twice just plain stopped chasing and stopped following my order.

Another time I was sieging the Greeks and I decided to just shoot the hoplites in the center square with horse archers. After one of them ran out of arrows, I decided to withdraw them. They couldn't find their way out of the town square, no matter how many times I clicked on the road leading out of it and clicking on other place outside the town square. They kept circling around and through the hoplites and by the time they managed to find their way out after around 5 minutes, they already lost more than half their unit to the hoplites. This is a horse archer unit with 3 silver chevrons. I'm getting really frustrated by unit pathfinding and responsiveness to my order. The AI seems to be ignoring me and wants to do things its way and it does it in a very stupid, mind-boggling way.

I have had troops form up inside walls after coming over on a siege tower. They then sit there and get slaughtered while refusing to respond to any orders except which way they face,I have also had problems similar to yours with cavalry.
On the other hand.................some battles go flawlessly in city sieges. What the hell causes some of them to mess up i just do not know.

Yeah the pathfinding is sometimes terrible, and sometimes it's passable. I find that I'm having to tell my phalanx units to move behind the units I want them to attack and right at the crucial point telling tehm to attack that unit because otherwise they'll just sit about a foot away from the enemy, waving their shiny pointed bits and dancing a little jig

That happened to my supposedly elite sacred band infantry in Romes central plaza.3 units just stood looking at 1 unit of Triarii cutting them to pieces. Then a unit of elephants i had sent for the square about 10 minutes before came storming in from the OTHER direction and flattened everyone.

They will also stop or fail to run if you grab a couple of them and doubleclick some point. I'm not sure why. Doesn't always happen, but it can really destroy a battle when you look around and realize one flank moved a few feet, then stopped...

There is some wierd stuff with chasing skirmish units. There will be times when your units just stop like you described. Slower units like camel seem more prone to it. And even with skirmish off they slow down as the skirmishers circle.

The plaza is the black hole of death. Units won't cross it without going through the center. Units won't disengage either. They just suck into the center.
