Maybe I'm just a moron, but after the Marian Reform, why doesn't any of the Roman factions have a spearmen? And no, Town Watch don't count and neither do those useless Auxilia's. ~

Auxilia are fine. If a general is near to rally them and some cavalry and/or as support, they are fine. They are acceptable on their own. They are the only spear unit after the reforms, anyhow. I find that mercenary hoplites are commonly available where strong spear units are needed, though I have never tested them systematically against auxilia, so I might be wrong there.

Bah, legionaries perform better in about every situation better than Auxilia. I never made anymore after several disappointments using them.

They're not really meant to fight with. That's why they're called Auxillia. If I have to use them, it's flank protection or to slow down a cavalry charge.
