You know how your men beiege the city, and there are glacis and then on the battlefield there is no defense. You know what we should do.

Is have a defensive wall for your troops. A ring around the city. Make the enemy pay for attacking you. During ancient times the idea was to besiege the city, while the relief army tries to break the siege (Alesia).

I mean they could build ramparts, and the enemy building palisade around the city, why can't we?

I don't see how this could be implemented, but i'm sure it could so why not?
The smaller the city, the lesser the defense, but if you assail a large city, large ramparts and palisade encircles the city.

But this doesn't mean there will be no defense. When you press turn, and your sieging Rome, huge city, there may be a screen that says

"Rome has undermined your ramparts"
thus the Romans have sucessfully undermined your rampart.
And then if you attack, your ramparts will be in ruin.

And its not going to take a season to ring the city with a wall, especially a huge city, it could take a few seasons for the walls to be completed. So if you sally out, you could find a hole in the defense, and charge though.

Any further ideas?

That's a very good idea :)

It should be a new option with the siege machines : "palissade", costing between 50 and 100 construction point per city size. Once completed, it surround the city with a rough palissade wall.

Would be great ^^

When you sally out of a fort, the AI is extremely stupid and runs to your walls to get nailed.
