I was just thinking that it would be really cool if the family tree had a little bit more to offer on your family members, particularly when they have died. For instance:

-At the moment it only tells you when they died, so you've no idea how long they lived for. It would be nice to know when they were born too.

-It would be nice to know how they died, whether it be by the plague, old age or a heroic battle with the Egyptian faction leader.

-And lastly maybe the title they died with and whether they had been a faction leader or heir.

For example:
Gaius Julius the Mighty
Born 261 BC
Became faction leader 230 BC
Died 200 BC in an heroic battle with the (insert faction) (insert captain/general/faction leader) (insert name)

I think this would greatly add to the immersion and would allow the player to plot some devilish plan to avenge the death of a prized and powerful general.

As an afterthought it would also be very handy if when a son comes of age there was a shortcut on the scroll that took you straight to the family tree. At the moment it's a bit of trial and tribulation to follow and keep track of the family tree, especially when the empire gets bigger.

What do you think?

Excellent idea. It would also be nice if we could access their traits as well, as these play a role in the likelihood of his sons inheriting some traits. It would also be nice to see the spread of these traits through the family tree.

Nice ideas but do'nt expect to see that before the expansion pack

An excellent idea.

All this could be solved by allowing a dead guy to be right clickable and it would bring up his character sheet - that would have age, whether he was faction leader or heir, attributes, retinue, etc.

i'll second this, and also suggest that you still be able to view dead characters traits, eg. the portrait is still grayed over but as suggested when you mouseover you get a little R.I.P message and still be able to see their stats. I get quite attached to some of the early generals, you know the one who has 5-8 famous battles strewn across the land and every good vice plus one bad one maxxed to the hilt. It would be cool to be able to go through the tree at later stages in the game, and say check his v&v's vs his offspring, i know it'll be different but it could add a nice touch of continuity.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think it would really help with the immersion of the game. Treasuring the memory of family members as they die honourably on the battlefield and then enacting sweet revenge on their murderers. The family tree would then become and more important part of the game and provide the backbone for stories of your imperial campaign.

Edit: troymclure's idea would be the best in the interim and shouldn't be difficult to introduce, maybe not even requiring an expansion...
