View Full Version : (RTW) Where can I find the Bastarnae Mercenaries?

The unit description in the game directory suggests they are found near the Balkan Islands, but I don't know where those islands are or what their name is on the RTW map! :lost:

So... where do you find these guys?

The Balkans is the area in and around Greece.

I generally found them in Northern Greece in my Greek Campaign. They are kidn of all over the place there as I remember recently hiring the following Mercs in Ionia (right near Sardis): 2 Bastarnae's, 2 Cretian Archers, 2 Rhodesian Slingers, 1 Merc Hoplite. A nice assortment I have to say.

So I'd say they can be found anywhere from Northern Greece to Western Anatolia. They're amazing troops.

I picked up a group by Bylazora last night. Wow, those guys are vicious on walls! Last night in a seige assault they killed 192 peasants, levy pikemen and militia hoplites with a loss of 16 men.

These guys are also fun to listen to when they stand around doing nothing. They say or yell some funny stuff sometimes.

You can recruit 1 unit of Bastarnae mercenaries in Bithynia with 2 Thracian mercenaries as well.

I got them once in Thrace. they're meaning looking cookies ~:cool:

They look just like Thracian mercs, so don't overlook them.

Got them in Crete last time with some thracians, hoplites and cretan archers.

I found some more last night in Asia Minor between pergamum and that city west of it.

Easiest way to find exactly which provinces they are able to be found in...is going into the campaign folder and lock into the document something_mercenaries.doc found in the imperial campaign folder...

I prefer Thracian mercenaries over Bastarnae mercenaries - they seem to perform just as well in combat, but they only cost me half as much money to recruit.

export_mercenaries_descr.txt is the file you are looking for, the type by region and probability of appearing.
