View Full Version : Does anyone even get to use triarii
I was just wondering if anyone is actually able to use these bada$$ units. I dont know if anyone else agrees with me but i think they are awesome! The problem is marius comes before im even able to use these guys. I hope the rumor is true that the reforms wil be pushed back. Right now the predominate tactic seems to be a "marius rush".
I played with them for a while -- I captured Carthage, and hey! presto! they had an army barracks sitting there, just waiting to pump out triarii. I must confess, though, that I miss the javelin-throwing and short-sword stabbing. But as a rock-like wall, they're great fun.
I find that I prefer more flexible, fast-moving troops, however.
And yes, there are rumors a'plenty that the Marisu reforms are being pushed back in the 1.2 patch.

I have to agree, the look like great units, but I have rarely used them, because by the time I have the proper barracks built, the Marian reforms happen. In my last campaign I recruited 1 unit of Triarii before the reforms (of course I didn't realize that building the Imperial Palace was the trigger then). I was so stoked to finally be pumping them out, too. Oh well.

I have yet to even get that far in a campaign.
Before then my cities are buried in filth and its hordes of citizens are rebelling.
Also my allies seem to be more likely to attack than the neutrals and I'm at war on all fronts.
I keep restarting the game because it gets so messy and no amount of proper planning and execution can stop it. :dizzy2:
i used about 6 units, but then the reforms....
BUT i prefer post marius units, they're more versitile. The triarii rock in defence, though
to get triarii fast, just build ur barraks in 1 city or something and just keep on upgrading barracks and upgrade the governer palace whenever u can and just doing barracks and u will get them fast. I did this and got them very quickly and i owned :D
