Ok, so I'm well into my Scipii game, conquered around 20 provinces now, playing w/ Huge unit size. Now, I never noticed Huge unit sizes had no time limit, except in sieges, but i was happy with that as i get enough time to shower the enemy with projectiles. Anyways, i sieged this Macedonian city with a large garrison, and suddenly, they sally the siege, which was expected, since my sieging army is less than 1/2 size of the garrison+reinforcements. So my principe and archers beat off wave and wave of their lancers and phanlanxes, and routed their entire garrison+reinforcements, with like 1/2 of my army left. Ok, I'll let them rout off the field and continue the siege, but OH NO, its a sally, so they can NEVER ROUT OFF THE FIELD! I have no siege equipement and am too weak to assault them anyways, and they are just sitting inside the walls doing nothing! Even though they attacked me! Since there is no time limit, they just sit there forever and i have to take the loss, even though i only had 2 turns to go till I starved them out! I hope this never happens again, but just in case, is there any way to turn on the time limit for huge unit size? I think time limit is dependent on unit size and i don't see a time limit option anywhere, in game or in the menu.

That sucks. Tip:next time they sally rush in troops as they route thru the gate. You will take causualties if it's stone walls or better, but that's perferable to what happened to you.

There's some bugs with sieges. I had a garisson in my selucid city that was under siege by a lot of Macedonians. I sent some Phalanx units to the north side of the city and then did a sortie so I could bring them into the battle as reinforcements, and then move them inside the city to reinforce the garisson. I didn't want to fight the macedonians in the field cuz they had a ton of cavalry and I thought my mostly Infantry force would get slaughtered in the field.
When I started the battle I got a message that my reinforcements were delayed (they never came), so I did some skirmishing with my archers and slingers. Ended up killing about 150 Macedonians while taking about 80 casualties so it counted as a victory when the timer expired. When I got back to the strategy map, all 3 Macedonian armies (over 1000) troops had disbanded cuz I had a slight victory in some inconsequential skirmishing..

Man - if they lost that battle (fought by starving and tired defenders) they'd probably end up surrendering the next tu-..... oh right they can't surrender

Are you sure they disbanded? Usually they move back into their territory, even if that´s on the other end of the map, you don´t always get to see that, but it might be the case, if not, then it should be a bug.

There really is no way to calculate a defeat of a sally short of complete annihilation of the defender is there? This is a huge problem with huge unit size where there is no time limit and the besieger has no siege engines yet.

The Macedonians landed those guys across the Aegean so unless they jumped back onto their boats and sailed off without me noticing, they didnt retreat.
