Like in Medieval Total War i find that some generals won't die!!!!

And it really gets me very "upset". today i had a no star general (he was one of those foot soldiers with the really long spears? (Greek) i have it in german so the names are differant, anyway) I had killed off all his comrades with light cavalry (my general) while they were retreating from behind. Once his comrades had died he decided it was about time to turn and fight, so he did and killed my remaining 7 horses and the really "sad" thing is he had a one-on-one duel with MY general and came off better...

its a real shame they haven't fixed this kind of thing. Just coz they are generals doesn't mean they are supermen.

Oh yeah the general was even more cunning! when my cavalry had killed his men and were turning round to do him, he lay down on the ground and then jumped up and got two of my horses...i am sure i am not haulucinating (no i don't know how to spell it) has anything like that happened to anyone else?
:furious3:

Troops can get knocked down but not actually killed, you'll see it with elephants/chariots alot, but only sometimes with horses. And I think, but i'm not sure that captains are given a boost to their stats(at least 2 hp like other generals). As for him taking out your last seven cav the unit might have got the phalanx bonus and combined with your men being tired/severely depleted they just won out. I've found most generals are pretty easy to kill, even enemy kings due to their hp only being 2 now. I've wiped out 3 or 4 family members including an enemy king during one battle, mainly using footsoldiers/archers and my own general unit.

So a man with a 10 foot long rod with a sharpened head on it, killed your mounted Gen...?

Did he have any golden chevrons? Some generals were really unbeatable in battle or just plain suicidal like Alexander the great. Hmmmm I wonder if the game was in this time period how many hit points would he get

There's a trait that can raise the hitpoints of your general by two; that would defenitely make him seem indestructible.

I've found javelins are quite effective against generals.

Units on guard mode...advance and end it quickly and cleanly.

not much glory, but nothing is more glorious than the triumphal parade.

I just had an amusing battle as the Brutii. I was attacking a city with only two heavy spearmen (two guys, not two units) and I sent in a unit of 60 early legions to kill them for kicks. I killed his two companions quite easily using the pila, but funnily enough the gen himself resisted two subsequent pila volleys. He kept on getting pushed back by the pila volleys, but never fell down. Finally he charged my legionaires and managed to kill ~4 of them before being cut down.

So yeah...in conclusion, gens are still quite dangerous. And I was bored. :)

I had a funny experience with a regular foot soldier who wasn't even a general. It was an armored hoplite (or just plain hoplite, I forgot) for Greece. I surrounded the remaining Greeks in their town square with hillmen and mercenary hoplites. All but that single guy already died. He continued to fight for a while. He was knocked down three times and got up all three times. He was eventually killed on the fourth knockdown.
