I want glorious achievment mode back! I know the senate gives missions, which is kinda like that but it isnt the same and its only for romans..boo.

It was such a more rewarding experience than 'conquer the map' mode (dull)

In MTW playing as BYZ, I often held the traditional BYZ territory and let everyone else kill each other so you got large wars against the inevitable victor. I thought it a bit more of a challenge that way, especially when the horde appeared.

Now if RTW's diplomacy system was a bit more advanced you could have things like Pax Romana as a goal-now that would be a challenge!

Anyone else miss it?

It is a heck of a long game, especially when fighting all the battles.

Me too...
It sems ridiculous that you have to conquer 50+ provinces and Rome to win as every faction. Even the Parthians and the British who are both a long way from Rome.
It wouldn't have been too difficult to throw in some basic GA tasks, such as keeping Home Provinces or conquest (you know, the really basic ones from MTW).
Hopefully, this will come out in an expansion (or maybe even a patch...)

I miss it too. The trade empire without enemies.... sigh.

I'd like to see some victory condition that isn't implicitly tied to military conquest. Wouldn't have to be the GA style, although that could work. But being restricted to war as the only real option gets tiresome.

I concur - my Parthian campaign is probably not going to see a proper conclusion for the simple reason I don't want to be forced to conquer Rome in order to win every single campaign. Certainly, it's important, but not that important to the various far-flung factions.

yeah, it's a very Roma-centric view to assume that the ultimate goal for all of these civs was Europeans domination AND owning the city of Rome. Rome was only the center of the universe to Romans. The Brit/German intro scene makes it pretty clear those folks would have been perfectly happy to just continue controling their own lands.

CA, give us GA!

Please? :help:

There is hope for some other ways to win...here is what Jerome said in the RTW mod forum...

Will it be possible to mod in MTW-style 'glory goals', or at least (heavily) mod the victory conditions of Rome?

'Glory Goals' not, but you can change the victory conditions. They are in the descr_strat.txt file, near the top. There are a bunch of undocumented ones which do not involve becoming emperor, for campaigns where it is not appropriate. I'll look into digging out the exact syntax.

Regions all have a 'Truimph Point Value' assigned to them. Not sure whether this is a relic from an intended 'GA' style game mode, or whether it can be utilised somehow in victory conditions.

One of the most useful elements of GA was you need which provinces the computer would fight to the death for and never surrender...

I do miss GA mode, but seeing as they never got it 100% functional it is not surprizing it is absent from RTW...

Finally as the Wonders are prebuilt, what GA's could you have?? Trade, Homelands and Conquest.... The trade ones were always a bit dodgy anyway so that just leaves Homelands and Conquest which is pretty much what we have got...

Well, that is another point, with this new engine, you would think CA would have fixed past problems AND made new intersting scenarios.

I...miss GA mode too...

However what should have been in this game is periodic glory goals which changed each decade or so depending on how the fractions historically evolved...

Since it is only war now I havent reached the 200 BC as of yet since 140 turns have so far been enought in all short campaigns and the long ones are far to demanding time wise for my taste...

Bring back the possibility to play peacefully...and win...

yeah GA mode was one of my favourite things about MTW. It added so much to the game, not just the opportunity to play peacefully and use bribery and agents as your main weapons but also it means you have to try to sabotage the factions that are doing well, and they could well be on the opposite side of the map, with many other powers in between! It was also good to try and nurture the powers that did not get a GA score, such as Sicilians in Late game and the Mongols/Papacy, and try to help them grow to wipe out the factions that do get GA scored. Hopefully it would not be too difficult to mod in (but i doubt it)

GA, the only way to play

CA, bring back that day

The day when visions of goals danced in my head

Now only one objective and the game seems dead

Perhaps with this, i am overreacting

But is it too much to implement what we are asking?

GA ....the only way to play :embarassed:

I agree, bring GA back !

It would just make for so much more variety than simply warring from start to end.
And then, perhaps the AI will be made a bit less "AI player" and a bit more "king simulator", and start behaving logically ?

I can't wait for the amazing day when this engine has gone Medieval and ... mmmm

I want historically correct mission. Like starting the Punic Wars in the correct years and fulfill different goals during those wars, laying siege to a specific city, conquering a Wonder, etc. The reward shouldn’t just be points, but something tied to the event. Undertaking the GA of leading Hannibal over the Alps should trigger the Historical Battles he fought on that campaign, and first then be able to choose them in the main menu. Like unlocking Historical Battles in much the same way as you do with factions.
