View Full Version : Where men are in units.
Position in unit. We all know that each man is tracked, and each man has an honour score and that the honour score is based on kills and some other things. So we’ve all deduced that men at the front have a better chance to build their honour. What I wondered is whether or not men keep the same relative position in their unit. Obviously the troop leader does, but is his right hand man always the same and so on? In short, are men at the front in one battle going to be at the front in the next battle? Does it vary from unit to unit, are ashigaru more likely to choose a spot to stand in and samurai more likely to keep the same formation? If you ‘shuffle’ them along a cliff edge do they go back to their places from the start of the battle? Anyone know?

That's a good question.I notice them shuffling in the ranks when they are under missile attack and some of them are killed.Since they are numbered in the logfile
and not named except for the general I don't know how you could track them.

thats how i do it
I’d do that but I never last till the 1980s when satellite improvements and things are available, is there no way to do it in the early part of the game?

OK, enough frivolity for today http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif
I think the soldiers have defined positions at the start of the battle: the unit leader being in front center, the first ten guys being the honor standard bearers etc. But, AFAIK, the soldiers aren't actively trying to maintain those positions: if you maneuver around a bit, you'll often find the honor standards all jumbled up. The unit commander is the only one who tries to stay in the front center regardless of maneuvers.
