I must admit that I know how to play a good game of Shogun and Medieval, but I'm still getting the feel of Rome, so, here's my question for now....

What campaigns and/or battles must i complete to unlock the other factions?

That's it for now!!

Txs ppl

Or you can play a short campaign and unlock most of them.

Lets see if i get this!!

I must eliminate a faction to be able to control them afterwards? :wink3:

Eliminating a faction will allow you to control them in subsequent games. However, winning a game (completing the victory conditions) will unlock all of the playable factions.

I completed a short campaign with House Julii and it allows me to play: Egypt, Parthia, Selucid Empire, Greek City States, Gaul, Britannia, Germania and Carthage. I guess I must complete another campaign in order to unlock some other factions.

Yeah, those are the only playable factions. There is a nice mod out that will make all factions playable, so I'd recommend that if you want to try the others.

It's rather odd that in order to be able to play all of the factions you have to alter files. Why couldn't CA give access to them all from the off?

I agree who was the control freak who first began this aweful trend in gaming? I purchased the game, I should be able to choose who I play rather than jump through some arbitary hoop set by the developers. I choose to buy the game not copy it and the developer still treats me like some child that has to be guided through the game; I dare anyone from CA to challenge me on this. I think the game is great and hat's off but I bought it to play the Gauls, Britons etc, I am not that interested in playing the Romans and after so much hype to be forced to complete a campaign before I can really get what I paid for is disgusting. CA you should have more respect for us and give us freedom to choose. This has really made me angry.
Sincerely,
Arrowmaker

PS How do the rest of you feel?

I actually like the idea that they wish for you to win with the Romans first. It provides a reason for you to finish your campaign. Plus, you'll get rewarded.
Other games play like this... you must unlock the factions by winning with others. It's mostly seen in fighting type games, though. :duel: I don't think I've seen it in a strategy game before.
I guess, to each their own.

It is still a matter of choice and we have not been given one. I don't think that just because "other games do it, we should" really cuts the mustard!

It's nice to have the choice, however. I wanted to be the Germans first but was "bullied" (too strong a word I know ~D ) into choosing one of three Roman factions. I wanted to start lower down with the poorer quality troops of the barbarians and then gleefully select the Romans much later.
Doesn't matter now though because I completed a short campaign as Julii and am now playing the Germans so I'm as happy as Larry. But I wholeheartedly agree with Arrowmaker in that I bought the game so give me access to all the factions!!! Muhahahahaha!!

It's hardly unique to CA, I've played many other games over the years that limit your choices based upon whether you've completed training missions or certain tasks or reached a threshold in the game. In effect you earn a new choice through gameplay.

Personally, I quite like the idea of unlocking a faction by defeating it first, it lets me see both sides, learning first how to beat them and then how to be victorious as them.

no offense

but are you telling me you bought a game called ROME TOTAL WAR
To play as the britons or gauls?
your speaking in complete contradictions

The game is called ROME tw
its not called Britons TW is it?

sorry but im very stupified by your comments

if you dont like Rome DONT BUY A GAME CALLED ROME OK LOL

Dude this is sorta rediculous

you are really weird man really really weird

yes ill agree with you somewhat,
it was a big surprise to see that you could play with only roman factions to start with

and yes; they should have made ALL the factions playable
and winning with any of those factions should unlock extra units or something cool like that

right

but still; buying Rome tw just to play as the gauls or britons is totally going into weirdoville....

i bought the game to play as all the factions
i wanted to see every single thing the game has to offer

limiting yourself to the naked factions is just hilarious seriously

you bought it you can play it anyway you want man but trust me
playing as the romans or the egyptians or selucids etc is just as fun if not funner than playing as the gauls or britons....

hurling heads all day is fun ya but dude the elephants rock too

Please Try the other factions....
thats all im asking
dont limit yourself

ya im kinda guilty of that tho
i played as the English like 20times over on MTW
and only played as the other factions two or so times each

but i DID mod the files so that all faction oriented units could be built in their corresponding provinces

like if i took over north spain i can build all spanish units or if i took over constantinople i can make all byzantine units....
if any of you want the file i could put it up somewhere for download lol
it unlocks every single unit to be built by any faction you just have to take over the right province lol plus i made the gunpowder units much stronger because i discovered they were really weak so i tweaked them to mow down everything - we all know muskets beat swords 95% of the time after they were perfected...in MTW originally muskets are completely useless *had army of all gunners vs army of swordsmen i lost very very bad
it just wasnt realistic

cant wait to find a unit editor for Rome TW
but it seems i have gotton wayyyyyyy off subject so ill end it here lol

anyway dude try the other factions they all rock ~D
if i see you come back and say you refuse to play as the romans im gonna send the legions after you ~;)

To each, his own, I guess, Octavian.

I'm not worried about having to unlock a faction to play it, but I can see why you would want to mod away that requirement.
