I just started a game with the Parthians last night, and I noticed that they get market buildings and also trade caravans. The caravans are described as causing an "increase in tradable goods." And of course, the Parthians don't get improved roads like the Romans do. I'm wondering if the combination of markets and trade caravans that the Parthians get are equal to or better in terms of trade income than the markets plus roads that the Romans get. If anyone has any insight, please post.
There doesn't seem to be an increase in trade income from roads in the buildings file. If there is, it might be hardcoded someplace else.
The trade caravan line gives +2, +3 and +4 respectively to trade income. The market line, in contrast, gives +1 to +5 for the last building.

Some raods definitely give a trade boost. You can build the raod and then look at your settlement details screen and right away see the (grayed out) new money you'll be making. Only for some raod upgrades though, it seems.

only for paved roads, as far as i can tell. normal roads and highways give no income. it's possible they increase movement. not sure about that.
Highways definately effect troop movement almost making ships useless depending on where you want to go
