In the Strategic Map I cant seem to get my mouse to run smoothly. I tried everything but it just runs really slow and laggy, and it runs PERFECTLY fine in the battles and main menu. Does anyone know whats wrong!?!?!?! I need help bad!
mouse --> :duel:
I commiserate with you. I also experience this frustrating phenomenon.
From the considerable number of replys you have received in regard to this issue...it would appear that a solution, currently, eludes us all......
I use an optical mouse...not the remote kind.
My system (AMD/ATI) is quite current, my only bottleneck being RAM.
We can only hope that either the Developers rectify this issue with a patch or some technically minded individual explores it for us...technically challenged types :book:
~:handball: .....anyone?

Fool me once...shame on you.
Fool me twice...prepare to die.
If you have wireless mouse......check the battery lol ~D
I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!
All you have to do is go into your RTW folder.
-Click preferences.txt
-I belive you scroll down to you see Campaign_Map_Max_Scroll_Speed_Max_Zoom:
If you then type in a number, I typed 50 then it will change the scroll speed, also you need to change the one below this one. I pretty sure you can find it. Also I recommend that you save the file BEFORE you change it. That should fix it, if not dont get on me. My game is PERFECTLY fine after I changed it. I hope this helps! ~ :charge:
Hi everyone ~
Can someone please tell me what the preference file should show as I've altered it with no effect on my strategic map speed.
Thanks ~
In mine, I had the following before changing anything manually (not sure if the game itself changed it or not, though...)
CAMPAIGN_MAP_MAX_SCROLL_SPEED_MIN_ZOOM:30
CAMPAIGN_MAP_MAX_SCROLL_SPEED_MAX_ZOOM:30
I too am having problems with a lagging mouse, the campaign map scrolls ridiculously slowly, and also most of the time I have slightly lagging responses to any camera instructions in battles.
In addition to this, men are sometimes invisible (and horses are almost always invisible) - but only where terrain (grass in the foreground, or mountains in the background) is present - portions drawn on a sky bachground are perfectly visible. This means I often have armies of spear-tips, or if I'm really lucky a formation of busts! This can make it rather difficult to tell what's going on :( This tends to happen at mid range (and short as well for cavalry) - at long range, everything's fine, and at short, I at least get my infantry.
Also, even when I try to turn all shadows off, I get horrible black patches on the ground - I'd rather not have them normally, although when my men are invisible, it's the only trace left of them!
Finally, the worst part... The game just locks up during battle mode, very frequently (about 50% of the time, so far). This tends to occur towards the end of battles, although in the last instance it was near the beginning (but there was only one enemy unit in the battle). One time, it happened in the post-battle summary, where you find out how many casualties were inflicted, and so on...
I think it's a shame that they've decided to go for such a graphic-intensive approach for Rome. Having played Shogun and Medieval for far too long, it seems a shame that loyal fans of the series have to miss out now because their PCs aren't quite powerful enough... I mean, what's the point in having a beautifully detailed world if half of it (most notably the units!) can't even be seen?! Honestly, Medieval was beautiful enough for me...
I can see I'm going to have to pay some serious money to play Rome properly!
