View Full Version : [RTW] Priests from rival faction temples in retinue?

I notice that when I have a Temple (level 2 or higher) in a town, the governor seems to pick up a priest of that god in his retinue pretty quickly. It would be cool if I could pick up a priest of Artemis (say) after governing my conquered province for a while, but I haven't seen it happen.

Will I ever be able to get one of these priests, or should I just give up and tear down the old temples?

If you could I'm sure a bad vice would come with that. I think they have nullified that because you could have general walking around with 8 priests and since most of them give plus to command you could have a 16 year old dreadlord

Since I never seem to get a second priest regardless I'm guessing you can only have one with you (at a time). Mostly I just wanted to see what the other priests would do and get some variety.

I'm almost sure you can have more than 1 priest of you faction's type

Will I ever be able to get one of these priests, or should I just give up and tear down the old temples? You won't ever get them. For instance, the Priest of Artemis limited to the Macedonians.

There is nothing that I know of stopping you either getting, or exchanging, priest retinue members of the three types available to each faction. So I suppose you could have them all.

That would be nice.

Is there any way to give one character's retinue to another? I guess there wouldn't be, as you could have uber family members, but just a thought.

Just drag the character from one family member to the portrait of the target family member, and he should be transferred. You should also get a notification of the movement.

One point to note is that the characters need to be in the same place, e.g. in the same settlement, for the transfer to work.

This means that you can use "useless" family members as retinue transports from your Academied settlements to where they are most needed.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping for some different priests, but at least now I can tear down the temples when I want to without feeling like I'm missing out.

sapi: You can transfer retinue, as long as the characters are in the same army and the same type (general-general, spy-spy, etc). I've never tried adding multiple (different) priests to one guy yet though. Drag the portrait of the retinue member to the other guy's unit card. I only recently figured out that you could exchange them (thanks to this forum) and my guys are pretty spread out at the moment.

Seems to me the manual has got some nuggets of wisdom buried amongst a lot of Really Obvious Description. I don't know if others have gotten that impression or if I'm on crack there...

I never checked, do bribed enemy family members bring their retinue with them? You might be able to get some foreign priests that way.

You bet they do! Bribed a Macedonian as the Brutii and got a preist of Artemis, a hunting dog, and scout or something, which gave the general an incredible line of sight and good missile troops.
