View Full Version : Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 out today
It will be in shops this afternoon in America, if you did not preorder you will not be able to buy it until nov 2nd. Do'nt know how well the game stores are going to enforce it.
I got it for my wife because she wanted it but I'm thinking of giving it a try. The debate is wether to discover the bugs in RCT3 or just keep getting annoyed with the bugs in RTW.
RTW you can kill people, RCT 3 the option of drowning people is gone at least according to the demo. But you can put people on coasters that do'nt come back to the station. So either game the killing option is still there.
RTW you can anvelope the enemy. RCT3 you can bulldoze the path at the entrance/exit and put a building up stopping anyone from leaving the park.
Well maybe I will give it a try but I think that war has corrupted my mind.

I've played the demo a bit it was quite fun. I don't really care much for the whole park management aspect but building coasters and decorating your land is great.
I'm considering a purchase but I'll wait for some more reviews/impressions first.
Thoros of Myr, Please delay on this. The bugs in this game make the bugs in RTW laughable very very laughable. Heck RTW is polished it just needs a good buffer job. The worst part the lead developer said some of the bugs are'nt bugs you just are'nt playing the game right. It'll take him a while to live down that comment.
Some people have bad lag with this game and this is with 3 gig processors 500megs to 1 gig of RAM 128 meg video cards or better. And the lead developer also made a comment that they cannot recreate the lag with the machines they have in the developing office. Another comment that seems to have a lot of people mad. If this does'nt deter you go to the Atari website and go to RCT3 forums. Let me just say I think someone there has a fire-retardent suit from all the flames I've seen. It got so bad they quit deleting posts as I guess it had come down to too many of them to keep track of.
Well if I had played the full version and seen how much they had left out from the previous games I would have waited for the first expansion pack or second one. The game comes without tunnels. Your own security guards will vandilise the park. Basically the A.I. of the game is programmed to be dumb just like it's predecessors. Unfortanately whatever they did with the peeps causes major lag on most systems. So a dumb A.I. that takes up a lot of resources does not have some people happy with the game. Right now it is unplayable due to too many bugs. Some peeps say they have beaten all scenarios but for me there's too many bugs to work around to be enjpyable. Well the next patch is coming out this week and I'll see how much they have improved the game.

This is really disappointing. I loved the RTC series; I had highish hopes for number 3 and I quite enjoyed the demo. Fortunately I checked the official forums before buying; I saved myself £22.
If the game is patched up to working order then I'll reconsider. In the meantime I'll just keep on writing while I wait for RTW and CK to be patched as well.

yup. this is what i've heard about it too....bugs. games going from 2d to 3d are often this way on the first run. the devs are getting used to 3d and havent quite worked out all the math yet in a 3d world. wait for a patch or two.
K.
And after the first patch it still has problems although they worked out many of the bugs.
Nothing like building a coaster and finding out you can't complete it because the final piece will not connect to the station. A few of the coasters require that you build even number of special pieces otherwise it won't return to station. Now some of the other coaster games make it that you can stretch track pieces and considering this is the 3rd in it's cycle they should have improved on this. When zoomed in on a loop you will see an octagon shape same with other track pieces.
They did not really add too many extra track pieces for coasters, with overbanked turns being the biggest. Nothing new with the helixes either except on a few coasters you can bank them at 90 degrees or maybe that's just the turns, can't remember. So all helixes are still the standard 20 foot drop or whatever it is. No 40 and 60 foot drop helixes.
As far as the scenarios most of them are not challenging now that it is patched. Start scenario delete scenery that's all over the place build a quick park and it's done.
EDIT: you get money back for bulldozing scenery and when theres tons of it......
Now as for the eye candy it's great some people have made fantasy parks/rides or imitations of another park and they look great

As far as the subride with the underwaterview that's the best view in the whole game.
I guess I'll soon start downloading personally made scenarios as the ones made by the dev's isn't much and considering they were made when the game was "broken" and they went with making the landsapes crazy
