I've looked around for this and I can't seem to find anything, but forgive me if its posted elsewhere. Does a faction leader's influence have any other real affect than when negotiating specifically with him? Personally I don't notice much of a difference between my different heirs when they take the throne; the nation seems to stay at the same level of loyalty etc.
I have to say I really liked the MTW system of having peity and dread in addition to the other traits, and especially in having their affects able to be seen. I would have liked to see dread in RTW, such as having a king with high dread giving public order bonuses to the entire nation because they are so afraid of him.
I believe influence helps your standing with the senate. Other than that it probably only effects negotiations when diplo's talk to him
I found that the higher the influence, the harder to negociate (esp. with money). For example, you can sell your map to a 0-influence captain $6k, but to a 5-influence family member only agrees to pay $3k for the same thing.
But for cease fire and alliance I haven't noticed any difference. If their next goal is you, they won't bother ceasefire at all. But if you now make no border contact with them, they will agree to cease fire right away, and an alliance request next turn is a guaranteed success.

Heh, if that's true then you shouldn't even be able to enter into diplomatic talks with captains (except for bribes).
When a family member is governor, each point of influence is a +5% to public order, maxing out at 40% bonus.
I didn't realise we were using US dollars in the game....
It's canadian dollars. It's on the manual.
I have not throughly tested this, but it appears, distance to the faction leader has effect on unrest.

Right Slaists - I am seeing Unrest in cities that I can't explain. I took them over WAY long ago - the initial unrest (after conquering) appears to be 30% and goes down by 5% per turn... obviously this should be gone after 6 turns...
I think you're on to something, but distance to leader can't explain it much - if any. There are definitely cities that have 20% Unrest way past when they should (when I've been keeping loyalty at 100 or above) and right next to them, cities with 0 Unrest - and they are both very far from the Leader.
So what's the deal with Unrest way past conquering? Conquering minds want to know. ~
