I know that everyone and their brother has posted this sometime or another, but I need to fullfill(sp? i think i just made up my own word  ) this.

Tell me your favorite Faction, and why. Im looking for a Faction, but I dont know which one to pick. Im either going to pick the Guals, Britons, Germans, or Eygpt. I just want to know your opinion on YOUR FAVORITE faction. The best ones are cool, but the favorites are better.

Overall, I think I might do the Guals, I love their units and they fit what I want to do. Also, I love to start surrounded, like the Guals are. Its more of a challenge for me. Thats enough about me, how about you? :knight:

I like Armenia. I'm a big fan of horse archers, and a bigger fan of cataphract archers. They start in a nice eastern location, and can be challenging. They've got numerous expansion potentials. And who can resist playing the faction that is destined to give such nice cavalry to the Turks in MTW? ;)

I like the greeks. Their suberb defence abilities mean that i can expand and expect to be able to counter any threat to my homelands if i anger someone:)

Well, I'm into the Romans, for better or worse. I'm having a blast as other factions too, but the Romans are my favorite. The flexibility they get from their unit roster is, to me, the high point. You can do nearly anything with them.

Like sapi, I very much like the Greeks. Because their main unit is the hoplite, I was forced to play a defensive/diplomacy game - which I found very refreshing.

Greeks are nice with their' phalanx - but maybe you should try Macedon - they have superior Cavalry

The Greeks. I have a strange gaming fetish for huge walls of spears. I could choose the Seleucids or the Macedonians instead, but no. The Greeks look cool. Hoplites are the top end of chic Roman-era deathdealing bodywear, Armoured Hoplites look even more cool. You gotta love that helmet.

Now look at the helmets all the various pikemen from other Grecian factions use. Looks like some kind of penis idol stuck to the top of their damn head. Gah, terrible, just terrible.

Spartans? "I'm so tough the only armour I need is a less revealing toga"?

Have only had the game for a week now and must say it was worth the wait. The only factions I have tried are the Julii (which remind me of the english faction in MTW) and the Selucian Empire which has great phalanx units and rolls in money from the start. Pity they don't get to have decent affordable melee units. Great horse and elephant units and their scyted chariots can mow down any foot unit on their path. :charge:

Greek Cities is where it's at. Greece just provides such a thrilling challenge, all the islands, mountains, sudden changes in terrain and loads of factions to pick on really puts Rome: Total War's glorious features to maximum effect.

If you like horse archers, Scythians or Parthians are very fun. I played the Parthians but I think the Scythians have a better selection of troops. Parthian infantry really blows but they have cataphracts and elephants to go with their horse archers.

I'm having a blast with Pontus right now. They have phalanxes, scythed and archer chariot units, a javelin cav that's also a decent melee cav and a unit that's virtually a cataphract.

If I was going just for looks, I'd say Brutii. But if you're good, Armenians would probably be fun. They have some interesting powerful units once you've beaten back the surrounding enemies.

I vote for the Seleucid. They have everything:pretty good phalanxes for a wall of pikes, legionaries are effective for an infantry attack. They also bring very COOLED cavalry:companions, cataphracts, scythed chariot, and, what's more:those elephants heavy-tanks-and-men-killers.Enough? ~D

Can't argue with anyone one listed choice here so far. They are good indeed. Greece is great, Seleucids as well. I really enjoyed Pontus too. Playing Thrace I think was the most thrilling and challenging at times, but I'll play them again for sure. Hoplites and Falxmen, what a combo.

I love the Pontus faction. They get pikes after a while and the horse javs are great. I just wish they had a falxman or something, an elephant would be nice. If you can get them going, they get very wealthy but it takes work not to lose it all.

I like the Scipii : nice colour, nice banner, as Romans they have a very balanced selection of units, they got the most awesome temples of the whole game, and their starting position allows them to attack everywhere.

But my favorites are really the Greeks Cities. Sure, they don't have any cavalry, and their archers are pathetics. But they have the phalanx, they have the best-looking units of the game (aaah, armoured hoplites ^^), the start in Greece is just the most interesting to play, with endless possibilities, and, well, they are the Greeks. Making an alternative history where Greece regained its former glory...

It's just like playing the Byzantine Empire in 1204 and reconquering Europe ^^

Well I don't know if any of you consider them a "real" faction, but I started a campaign as the senate. I like them... they have the same units as the other roman factions, but with the added ability to wipe them all out from the beginning and establish a sole roman empire, not one divied up into 3 different factions. Plus, once you eliminate the three other Roman factions, the game gets tougher as everyone wants a piece of you, and you can't rely on those other allied Romans to help. Fun. I vote SPQR!!!

How can you play as them if everyones game crashes when you start a SPQR game?

I have to say I am *really* enjoying my Dacian game. It's very hard (a good thing) and when you finally reach Chosen Swordsmen and Chosen Archers, you can field excellent armies. Add a variety of Barbarian Noble Cavalry, Warhounds and Onagars and you can even go toe-to-toe with the Romans. That said, I really miss the Roman battle speeches... they contribute a great deal to my enjoyment of those factions.

I believe that the Brutii are technically the best. They are Roman so they get the best unit roster and they have the best position of all the Romans. They start out with not a single neighboring faction that can attack them without crossing the Mediterranean.

But if you like playing surrounded try the Seluecids, because they start off surrounded by 4-5 unfriendly factions and their units in the early game are not designed to fight the horse archers that they are surrounded by. The most fulfilling experience so far in this game for me has been destroying Egypt, Pontus, Parthia and Armenia after years of brutal warfare and getting the Greeks to turn on them, because the Greeks were their allies for almost half the time. :duel:
