Greetings! ~:wave:

On behalf of the membership and staff of TotalWar.Org, welcome to "theOrg" forums. The Org has been active since mid-1999, as a place where PC game enthusiasts gathered to discuss the then-not-yet-released Shogun:TotalWar game; we compared notes, investigated rumors, shared screenshots, and got to know each other in a genial, friendly way.

Since then, our content and membership, and the TotalWar series, have all grown. We have maintained our focus on TotalWar games and the RealTimeStrategy genre generally, while also promoting the same genial, friendly way of interacting with each other that we began with. We're happy that you have joined us in those pursuits.

You will find answers to most any question you have by clicking the FAQ link located near the top of every page of the forum. There are a few items peculiar to theOrg forums, not included in the FAQ, that you should know:

1) Avatar selection: see here: http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/U...s/picupload.php (http://www.totalwar.org/Downloads/Uploaders/picupload.php)
plus, user CP (control Panel) "Edit Avatar"

2) Signature size & appropriateness:
(under review)

3) Language: We have members from over 20 countries, speaking dozens of languages; in the interest of clarity, we use English as the default forum language. We allow no swearing. Moderators will either edit or delete offensive content.

4) Access & Membership Levels: We have 3 membership levels, Junior
Member, Member, and Senior Member. New registerees become a Junior
Member after they have verified their email address at
registration; they have access to all game-related forums.
Members get an 'edit' button, a larger Private Message (PM)
mailbox, and access to non-game-related forums. Senior Members
get an even larger PM mailbox. Forum users advance through the membership levels
after staff consultation and assessment of the user's contributions.
Factors assessed by staff include: quality of posts, quantity of posts,
evidence of continued interest, civility, and length of time
registered.

5) "Searching": {in-house disabled=crashes/use Google}

6) Downloads: {click "Files}

7) Staff: Org staff consists of Administrators, Moderators, and
Assistant Moderators. All are unpaid volunteers, and all are eager to
help any member with any problem. Moderator and Assistant Moderator
"powers" are forum-specific, so a problem in the Guides forum would be
best handled by one of the Guides forum Moderators, for example.

Once again, welcome aboard, we hope you find your time here as fruitful and enjoyable as we do.

=========================
Moderator's Note: This post/thread is a work-in-progress. As more information is assembled, it will be added. -KukriKhan

How do you become a member, not just junior.

I am helping out with the Citadel Mod, and it is really annoying not being able to vote on the polls, especially as some of them are about my suggestions.

Excuse me, shouldn't the following be corrected:

Totalwar Games are NOT in the Real Time Strategy genre.

They are TURN-BASED-STRATEGY games.

In the vein of Civilization and Europa Uralisis (sp?), etc. Total War isn't Starcraft! and generally RTS games aren't discussed much, and when they are, most of the talk is of espounding the fact that RTS aren't *Strategy* games at all. :book:

I think this s/b made clear. Part of the problem for Total War games has been that non-grognard newbies approach the game from a RTS mentality.

JMO.

Thank you for listening.

The game has more in common with Civilization than Starcraft?

I think it would be helpful to put how many posts it takes to advance in 'rank.' Is 'Member' fifty posts?

Membership level is not and never has been dependent on post count. Promotion is done manually by the administrators KukriKahn and Tosa-Inu, and is based on your behaviour on the Org. If you post regularly and interact with other patrons in a helpful and friendly way, they will promote you. Promotion sometimes can take some time when the moderators are busy, so don't be surprised if you aren't promoted within two weeks. Just keep posting in a friendly and helpful way and eventually you will become a full member.

Money would of course increase your membership very quickly if we weren't all Loyal Oghas and therefore immune to bribery albeit a hot chocolate and a shrubbery might just get you to first base ~:eek:
